Metro Late at Night

Flying into DCA late Wedneday (around 11pm) with my wife and 2 teen boys. Plan to take the Metro from DCA to Foggy Bottom - should I have any safety concerns that late at night?

MikeT Jul 16th, 2007 02:40 PM

None. Take the Blue Line to Foggy Bottom. The only down side is the trains run a little less frequently at that time of night, but it is perfectly safe.

I agree with MikeT. My friend and I (women in their 20's) felt completely safe taking the Metro at night.

Enjoy DC!

But remember, the Metro closes at midnight. If your plane (or luggage) is delayed, it just might be easier, and not much more expensive, to take a cab.

Last train departs at 11:47.

No! No ! No!

The last blue line train heading to DC leaves DCA at 10:55pm. The last yellow line train heading to DC leaves at 10:39pm.

While late night trains and the Foggy Bottom area late at night are perfectly safe, you are arriving too late to use it.

Take a taxi - about $15 (four one-way MEtro fares would have been $1.35 each or $5.40).

when I clicked on your link Bardo1, I saw this:

"Last train departs: Huntington- 12:10 a.m. Fort Totten-UDC- 11:44 p.m.
Largo Town Center- 11:47 p.m. Franconia-Springfield- 12:26 a.m.
(Trains leave exactly three hours later on Friday and Saturday nights.)"

Where did you see the 10:55pm and 10:39pm info?

Doh! Your are correct - I was thinking the page breaks were the end of the schedules!

mrwunrfl Jul 17th, 2007 09:48 AM

Ok, and it does mean that the last blue line train departs the airport station for Largo TC/NC at 11:47. On the Foggy Bottom page it says the last train departs for Largo at 12am, which would be the 11:47 dep from DCA.

Our flight arrives at 11:10 pm - we will not be checking bags - so I am hoping we will catch the last blue line train - other wise - with four of us, four pieces of luggage - looks like a cab would cost around $25.

Metro is perfectly safe at night, especially if you're only taking the blue between DCA and Foggy Bottom. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that your flight and luggage arrive in time for you to take the train...it never seems to work out for me when I have a late weekday flight into National.

Nicegirl, the OP's trip was a couple of weeks ago.

Oops! Well i hope it worked out nonetheless.
