metra and the weather

Hi, I just joined the Fodor group and I think that real people are best for answering my question. Does anyone know of the most budget worthy or value given hotels that are located most closely to the Metra stations? Suburbs are fine because travelling is a recreation for me. I had spent several months in Chicago and always enjoyed arriving at Union station, though the long trip back to the suburbs was a challenge as I came into the winter months. So I am hoping to find a hotel close to either the Metra station or a very few steps to a shopping area. Your reply , comments, or answers will be welcomed and appreciated.billpenn

You need to let us know what city you are talking about. You probably selected an area in the drop down box, but everything posted goes into the united states forum.

Are you talking about Metro in DC?

Evanston is a nice town with a Metra stop right by downtown. It has good restaurants, and some small boutiques as well as larger stores like Barnes & Noble, pretty neighborhoods, and the lovely campus of Northwestern University (but I'm pretty partial when it comes to that ;) ).

The Orrington Hotel is great, sort of along the lines of a W. But if that's more than you want to pay, check out the Margarita Inn.

Do you want the Metro in Washington DC or the MARTA in Atlanta?

There is no Metra.

well actually there is Metra Rail -- so billpenn - do you mean Chicago??

I believe billpenn is referring to the commuter trains in Chicago. http://www.metrarail.com/.

billpenn, how long is your stay? Are you planning to ride downtown each day? Is arrival at Union Station preferred over Ogilvie Transportation Center?

Try the Staybridge Suites in Glenview, or Marriott Residence Inn in Deerfield, both on the Metra Milwaukee North line.

Hi, I didn't say Chicago? It is Chicago. Let's send it around again. I'm a slow learner on this website.billpenn

Hyatt Woodfield would be good to stay at for the Woodfield Mall and Streets of Woodfield. And there are several Metra stops out in Schaumburg as well.
