Meredith or Wolfeboro
I'm trying to decide which town to stay in for 2-3 days on Lake Winnepesaukee in June - either Meredith or Wolfeboro. They're on opposite sides of the lake. If you're familiar with either/both of these towns, can you cast your vote and help me decide? Thanks for your help.

Meredith has a very busy but beautiful downtown area. Wolfeboro doesn't have as much traffic. If you want to be handy to I93, choose Meredith. It is also closer to my favorite town, Center Sandwich, for lovely drives. Visit Holderness too. If you want to be closer to North Conway, choose Wolfeboro. Check dates for lupine festival. You might be coming at the right time. In which case, being closer to Jackson might be better (Wolfeboro).
I think either one would be wonderful. We have friends in Wolfeboro who like to kayak and bike in the quiet areas. |
Thanks so much for your response and very helpful advice!

Wolfeboro is a historic old resort town with some nice walking-around stuff to do. The last time I was there, it was lovely to relive the childhood delight of getting an ice cream cone at Dockside while watching the Mt. Washington boat come in. (Can't talk about Meredith.)
It's worth a half-day trip on the Mt. Washington just to see much or all of the lake, and it stops at both Wolfeboro and Meredith, although just to take on and let off passengers, so you can see what's there. There are other boats (mail boat Sophie C) and several "cruises" available with other routes. |

Thank you HKP - We've decided to stay in Meredith, but plan to visit Wolfeboro too. Thanks for your suggestion for the Mt. Washington boat. It's a great idea.
