Mendocino, CA
Looking for hotel or B&B rec. in Mendocino, CA. Looking to visit in May for a few days. Also, any dining tips would be much appreciated. Thanks!

what is your budget?
I actually prefer staying just down the coast (about 3 miles south of Mendocino) here https://www.littleriverinn.com But if you want to be IN town I like this place https://www.headlandsinn.com |
Ditto Little River Inn. It also has a very good restaurant. We also dined across the street at Wild Fish and enjoyed that meal also

Another vote for Little River Inn. We loved their restaurant for both dinner and breakfast, as well.

Just noticed the website now really emphasizes the cottages and higher end rooms (which are great) but if budget is an issue, the best combo of views and value for $$ would be in the 2 story 'motel-type' bldg w/ rooms #'d 118-129 and 218-229. Each of those rooms (called 'traditional') has a balcony w/ two rocking chairs and unobstructed views. Those units will run $100 to $200+ less than other 'posh' rooms.
I actually prefer those cheaper rooms when I'm traveling solo or with one other person because they are roomy, close to the main bldg with pub and restaurant, and the views are KILLER. |

They were renovating the Mendocino Hotel when we were there last spring.

Traveldeanne, Mendocino was my husband’s most favorite travel destination. We made many trips up the coast from Southern California over a thirty years span, staying in several different lodgings both in and outside of town. I loved the feel of the village and had a strong preference for staying there. Our very first trip we stayed at the Mendocino Hotel and our last at the Joshua Grindle. In between we stayed at the Heritage House, Stanford Inn by the Sea, Headlands Inn, MacCallum House, and John Dougherty among others. When we travelled with our boys we sometimes booked one of the water towers. My report of our last trip is now ten years old, but it may offer you some ideas to check out for current status, https://www.fodors.com/community/uni...-robles-905086.
