Memphis/Nashville Trip - 4 Days/3 Days Enough?
Hello Everyone,
I'm working on planning a 7-day (or so) trip to Memphis and Nashville for my wife and I. I've been looking at everything available and trying to figure out how many days to allow for each location. In Memphis, we want to go to places like Sun Studios, Stax, Graceland, the big flea market and tons of other things. In Nashville, we'd probably want to tour/visit the Grand Ole Opry, the Rockabilly museum, etc. After looking at all there is to do (it doesn't look like there is any shortage of things to do), I'm thinking 4 days in Memphis and 3 in Nashville would be just about right. Has anyone done a similar trip? Thanks, everyone! |
I've been to both and would spend 4 days in Nashville/3 days in Memphis. I think there is more to see/do in Nashville.

I did a similar trip a few years back.
Do not miss the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville. Also you may want to consider some side trips, like Tupelo Mississippi to visit birthplace of Elvis or to Lynchburg Tenn to tour the Jack Daniels distillery. |
I'd agree with more time in Nashville than Memphis (but I live here, so I'm biased :) ). In addition to the cities themselves, there's more to do in the surrounding area in Nashville (visits to Lynchburg, Franklin/Leipers Fork, etc.).
Just to make sure you know - I'd never heard of the Rockabilly Museum, and a google search says it's in Jackson, not Nashville. You may know that already, but I wasn't sure! Either way, Jackson's right on I-40, so you can do that between cities. |
Of course do the Elvis tour while in Memphis. Take time to eat on Beale Street. Rendevouz for ribs. My favorite Memphis Restaurant is Blues City Cafe. A Sunday Brunch at the Peabody is very good (about $40pp, but worth it). Also see the ducks at the Peabody.
In the summer it can be very very hot and humid. |
