Memorial Service
 

I have just attended the memorial service in St Paul's Cathedral in London. It was incredibly moving and the music and readings were wonderful. It was attended by our Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh, Price Charles, the American Ambassador to London William S Farish. There was over 2500 people inside the Cathedral and as many outside, a large amount of Americans and lots of "city" people who had left their places of work to show their respect. Please believe that the majority of people in the UK have expressed their sympathy and anger at what happened. I was due to come over to Boston and NY for my holiday this week, I was so looking forward to it and had a lot of help from this website. I will re-arrange as soon as I can, but have offered my two seats on the plane to anyone who needs to get home quickly before I can even think of going away myself. I love the USA and work for a large American Investment Bank, we have a small number of our people unaccounted for, I pray that more people are found alive.

Thanks for sharing this info, Julie. It's comforting to know that the grief here is shared. I doubt anyone has watched that playing of the Star Spangled Banner in London with a dry eye.

Thanks. With so much press over here about anti-American sentiment, it's reassuring that we are embraced by other civilized countries. <BR> <BR>On that note, I saw on a news blurb on the internet that Kuwait arrested people who were celebrating the tragedy. It's nice to see an active response in our support in Arabic countries.

The British response to the US crisis has truly been wonderful and comforting. In a time of disaster with international implications, international support takes on a special dimension. <BR> <BR>When I took my kids to England last summer, showing them St. Paul's, etc., I thought of the benefit that in the future, whenever they saw these places on TV, movies, etc., they would be able to say, "Hey, I've been there!" Sigh, this was NOT what I had in mind! Part of growing up, I guess.

<BR>Julie, I have always loved the British people but yesterday your nation endeared itself to me in a new way. What a touching moment, when the band played the Star Spangled Banner at the changing of the guard. It made my heart soar! <BR> <BR>Thank you for your kind words of support.
