Memorial Day weekend in Fla-

A co-worker and myself are planning a trip over Memorial Day weekend. We are both female, single late 20's. We've settled on Fla. I don't know which area in Fla. that's why I'm here. I've been to South Beach and I think it's a little to busy for my co-worker. We are interested in beaches durng the day and local bars/pubs at night. Kind of on a budget.
Any ideas?? Thanks

It's a big state with many options. How about Key West?

The Pier House has a small, private sadn beach and is at 1 Duval Street.

I'm very partial to Delray Beach and Naples. Both have an upscale feel to them. Certainly no more expensive than South Beach.

Key West, Amelia Island or St. Augustine.

You indicated that you are on a kind of a budget but no specifics. The good news is that by late May we are pretty much out of season so rates are somewhat better than they would be now in "high" season. You might check hotels in the Sarasota area either for Lido Beach or Siesta Key. Lido has nice beaches and St. Armands has loads of restaurants or you are only 5 minutes from downtown Sarasota with more restaurants and clubs.
If on Siesta, you will find many restaurants and clubs as well, especially in the Village area of Siesta Key. Siesta probably would win out if beach is #1 concern and Lido would win out if your primary interest is the bar and pub scene.

Ft. Lauderdale's fun. Not as "extreme" as South Beach, but loaded up with beach bars and good looking men. ;)

How about the beautiful beaches of the Florida panhandle? Destin, Seascape, Pensacola Beach???

Have fun, and don't forget to come back and post a trip report! ;-)

Oops, forgot to mention that the Naval Air Station is in Pensacola . . . interested in meeting Top Gun?! ;;)

Naples, absolutely.

Gorgeous beaches, fabulous food and shopping on 5th avenue and 3rd street and the waterside shops.

It's not too quiet and not fuddy duddy.

Or Key West - but the beaches there are really just EH.

Thanks for all your help. I will definitely look into these places. Especially Pensecola- I'm a sucker for a guy in uniform.

For some reason I keep coming back to Ft. Lauderdale when I do my searches.
As for budget. I'm looking for cheap, but nice. Nothing too upscale. A clean, bug free room is all I ask for. walking distance to a beach and a cab ride away from bars/restaurants.
I am planning another trip in the fall so I have to keep that in mind.

Thanks Again!!

I've been to Key West. I liked it, but the beaches weren't all that great. The bars are fun though!!

FYI: Just learned that Memorial Day weekend is a big gay/lesbian event at Pensacola Beach if that is an issue for you. Good luck with your planning!

Thanks- I think we're decided on Ft. Lauderdale. Now just looking for a good package.
