Memorial Day too crowded in NYC???
 

I want to visit my son in Stamford, CT. We will see the sights in NYC and want to see areas of CT and possibly out to Cape Cod also. My question is...would Memorial Day weekend be a poor time to start the vacation? My husband wants to stretch his time off by adding to his 3 day weekend. I'll be staying longer since I have more time? Will all of the NYC attractions be extra crowded? Our schedule is wide open and we can go anytime during June or July. Thanks for the help!

Memorial Day weekend is not particularly more crowded. In fact, many NYers leave the city for holiday weekends so it's somewhat less crowded. The same is also true for July 4th which is a wonderful chance to see the fireworks if that's an option.

Cape Cod is not a small distance.

That weekend will be really quiet. As McLaurie said, many residents leave for the country/beach....

It is a great time to be here!!! Weather should be really nice... If you want an excursion, think closer to NYC than Cape Cod.. What about North Fork, Long Island??

You can not rely on the weather being warm and sunny for Memorial weekend. We've had many a cool, rainy holiday weekend.

Cape Cod and Montauk can be miserable when the weather is cold and clammy. Frankly we won't know what the weather will be like until the middle of May.

The summer weekends (Memorial thru Labor Day), especially the 3-day ones, in NYC are very quiet.

As others have indicated, the city tends to be much less crowded than usual on holiday weekends, rather than more so. I've been there on Labor Day when ti was quite abandoned!

Although the weather over Memorial Day can be iffy, that's true any time; I would certainly prefer to take whatever weather the end May has to hand out, rather than the worst of what July has to offer!

You don;t say how long your vacation is - so can't comment if Cape Cod makes sense or not.

Memorial Day is a great time to visit NYC. The weather is usually good - warm - but not hellishly hot lke July - and as many have mentioned the city is less crowded than usual because so many locals go to the beach or the mountains for the weekend. That said - there are usually a LOT of tourists - so I would get to work on a hotel right away.
