Megabus accident owego, NY

Hello,

I was going from Philly to buffalo on July 14th. The morning of July 15th, I think the bus driver fell asleep and the bus went into the ditch and almost went into the river. The windshield was distroyed and some people were injured with broken glasses.
Unfurtunately, i didn't have a cam to take pictures.
I was wondering if someone else was there and took pictures, could you post them please?

Do you mean June 14th? Or July?

Not sure what you need photos for - but you might try the local newspaper. Or the Police that responded to the accident.

frono123 Jun 22nd, 2013 06:23 AM

I mean June. The accident happened June 15th at 4am. I have looked everywhere and i haven't found anything. Its just weird because we almost died and there is no news about it.

Where did the accident occur?

Dukey1 Jun 22nd, 2013 07:33 AM

you almost DIED?????

frono123 Jun 22nd, 2013 08:11 AM

Yes!!!!! Owego, NY, and I haven't seen Megabus posting any news about it. The bus driver didn't want To tell us what we crashed; he must have fallen sleep.

Were passengers interviewed by the New York State police or the NTSB?
Were any passengers taken from the scene by ambulance? How did you get to your destination?

Frono, you need to contact the newspapers and TV stations closest to Oswego and ask them to do a story. You may need to point to them which bus and the number of passengers.

They have the ability to find the accident reports and can follow up better than a message board.

If you were injured, please get it taken care of. Good luck.

I would think if people were seriously injured there would have been a ton of ambulances and cops there and a lot on local news. Have you checked out the local TV stations online? Have you called the police - they will have all of the details.

Didn;t you get the info when you were released from the hospital?

From what you said the bus went off the road and windshield broke, It didn't sound like anyone was seriously injured or nearly died.

If that's the case - not every minor accident makes it onto the news.

According to news sources there was a serious Mega bus accident in that area in 2010. Have you somehow lost 3 years?

Lookin_Glass Jun 22nd, 2013 01:59 PM

you almost died? some people were injured with broken glasses? were they throwing eyeglasses at each other in a panic to get off the bus?

i'm so happy you're not yet dead.

frono123 Jul 1st, 2013 11:28 AM

Nytraveler,

I have not lost 3 years. It happened june 2013!
You don't have to be rude. It's true, it is frustrating because there isn't info about it anywhere.

You have not answered the questions.

What info did they give you when you were released from the
hospital?

What info have the local police been able to give you?

If you were not in the hospital you didn't almost die. (Millions of people are in minor traffic accidents every year. This has nothing to do with almost dying.)

If the police did not come to the accident it wasn't serious.

Not sure why you persist on a travel board instead of consulting the authorities that have the information you want.

Hey Frono123/Jairo,

I was on the bus too. I sat on the bottom deck. I was curious and searched Megabus Owego to see if there was anything about the accident and came upon this forum. From what I learned from a passenger that sat on the upper deck, the driver hit a sign. The police, ambulance, and firemen came to help us out. There were no major injuries. The local police got everybody's information on the bus. Everyone got free breakfast at the hotel that they transported us to. Also, Megabus gave everyone a full refund on the same day of the accident.

Good to have the mystery solved.

And glad no one almost died.

I live close to Owego, read the newspaper everyday, and did not hear about this. Sorry to hear about this. I, too, have ridden the Megabus.

I was the driver. I have pictures and the maintenance records that prove mechanical failure,it wasn't because I fell asleep.
I have been driving that route for almost 3 years,at night.
It took everything I had just to keep the bus from flipping over. We had an angel on our shoulders that night. I can't tell you how sorry I am that this happened.
The company wants to blame the driver because it makes them far less liable.
If you have a lawyer, have him contact me,some other passengers have already, and I'm more then willing to help.

Wow! What are the odds that the driver finds this post?

nytraveler Sep 6th, 2013 03:43 AM

I'm not surprised - fodors stuff always turns up near the top on google.
