Medical tourism/travel?

I need fairly extensive dental work that cost nearly $50,000. Has anyone taken a "medical tour" for dental work? Can you share your experiences?

I have not taken a tour for medical/dental treatment purposes, but this USATODAY article may be of interest to you: http://tinyurl.com/cd7v3

It seems to be on your exact topic.

Good luck!

I wish there was some way you could find out their complication rate, and degree of aftercare--how many times you go back for follow up AND what if you have "trouble" when you get back home...Will your regular dentist be willing "treat" you when work was done by someone else???
Above all I woiuld want to KNOW how they sterilize instruments..regarding cross contamination of HIV-Aids. Saoking them in alcohol will not kill that virus.!!
Obviously, you are not going to be able to get this type of info from a newspaper article..
BE Careful

traveler24 makes an excellent point about follow-up care. Many physicians/dentists will not touch work done out of this country.

My next door neighbor is going to Panama and live for about six weeks while he has extensive dental implants. The savings are impressive.

A friend is planning to go to Mexico. Other family members were pleased with their results.

My DIL's mother was born in Hungary and goes back for all of her dental work. She also has a dentist in this country and he has no problem with her doing that. She can get a cap/crown right away as her dentist just got a machine that makes them in his office. Her teeth look great.

You might also inquire at universities who often have clinics and will charge far less for the opportunity of the students , with supervision, being able to perform certain procedures.

Otherwise, should you go elsewhere, as stated be sure you look into all pre, post and emergency possiblities and how they would handle all of those, and who will do follow up if you have any need for it or maintain the work.

Has anyone ever considered the possibility that a dentist (as one example) charges the "going rate" for a particular AREA and that often you can get equally good care in another US city for less?

Of course, if you're one of those who thinks that civilized people only live in New York and POSSIBLY Los Angeles and it is a vast medical wasteland west of the Hudson and east of Riverside, well, welcome to India.
