McSorley's with an 18 yr. old

It's been years since I've been to McSorley's. I'll be in NYC during the holidays and would like to take my daughter in there. I certainly don't remember anyone carding people, so will we be able to go in and have a beer as long as she doesn't order one?

When I was 18, I could go in there all legal, but they didn't take your kind at all.

Legally, your daughter can not enter McSorley's, but more than likely it won't be an issue ... McSorley's generally does not have a "bouncer" checking IDs .. the exception is weekend nights ...

Hey EricH,

You must be a real old codger. But it's ok...I can share a potty with you.

I'm not THAT old, just old enough. I was delivering the mail in the neighborhood the day they desegregated McSorley's and dropped in for a couple of beers.

Ok EricH,

Sounds like you should be very thankful that you are retired...I would love to be able to say that.

I'm sure the place isn't quite like I remember, but the last time I was there we sat at a table near a pot-belly stove with a nice big fat grey striped cat.

and ate saltines, mustard, and cheese.

I've peed in the woods. Not real timid.

EricH Dec 13th, 2007 05:33 PM

I'm not retired, but I think about it.

It's exactly as you remember, right down to the saltines.

. . . except, instead of a local crowd and some students, it's overrun with tourists . . .
