MCO Car Rental
Wanted to hear good and bad experiences renting from any company at Orlando International. I'd love to get a compact for a week and keep it under (or close to) $150, but only Budget and Thrifty come close. Do I go with the cheapies or should I pay for peace of mind? Also is there a significant difference between in terminal rental locations and those close by but offiste?

We rented off site from Americar and it was just fine--cheapest at the time. Not a million people in line!

We rented a Ranger truck from Budget last year and actually got compliments from other people in grocery store parking lots! We had no problem with the company, truck or location of the rental agency (right inside the airport - always a plus to us!).

While I've flown into several airports around the nation, I'm not always familiar with the codes/ You might have better response if you posted with Orlando Airport in the header as opposed to MCO. Posters who make their posts the most user friendly seem to get the best responses.

Hello, We rented two different times from L&M which is located at the airport. Both times we got a great rate and were pleased with the service all around. If you rent offsite, you have to wait for the shuttel to pick you up and drive to their location. This can take some time and you have to allow at least another hour when you return the car to get to the airport in time for flight check in. Good luck!

Tim-Blow it out your ear pal! Seasoned travelers know their airport codes pal, so go find another site to post gibberish on...

As to car rentals-I have had bad luck with Dollar at MCO, would not recommend them!

I recently reserved a mid-size from Americar for 8 days in August. Got a great rate: $99/week plus $19.99/day (and, again, this is for a mid-size!!!). Can't tell you anything about the service.

Even the Hertz rentals are now located offsite in Orlando, about two miles north of the airport. I didn't think any cars were still kept on airport property at all anymore. The rental OFFICES are in the terminal, but you have to take a shuttle to the cars.

I'd have to agree with Tim about the airport codes. I travel so much for business that all of the codes start to look the same to me after over a 100 flights a year. I don't think he was trying to be rude. Probably just the opposite since he was simply trying to suggest how to get better response.

Now as for the question. I rented from Budget a few times last year in Florida and had no troubles. In fact they normally are nice enough to offer to upgrade me to a convertible when I fly into Orlando since I'm alone and don't need the extra trunk room for kid's luggage or golf clubs.

My daughters and I landed in Orlando around midnight and proceeded to the Alamo rental location via bus. When we arrived there was a two to three hour wait at the counter. After about an hour and a half in the line, I noticed people bailing out and getting processed through the Alamo Club (whatever it is called) line. I decided to try there, and the woman asked me if I was member, and being desperate, I lied and said yes. I know that she knew that I wasn't. Anyway, she did upgrade me to a convertible and we made it to the hotel by 3:30 AM. It was my worst rental car experience ever.
