Mazatlan Hotel

Three 60 year old ladies would like to find a hotel in old town Mazatlan. Does not have to be fancy, just clean. It would be nice if it was near the town center. Any suggestions??

You should post this over on the Latin America forum.

Most of the hotels are out in a tourist zone on the beach, which is a ways from town. The ones "near town center" are more basic Mexican style places (which maybe is what you want? but realize many won't have pools, some no air/con, etc.).

Also there is a separate branch for Mexico posts on Fodor's called Latin America. You might want to put your question there also. Suerte (luck), Suze

Suze....No pool...As I remember, the hotel is sort of triangle style. With the restaurant in the courtyard. Our room had 2 double beds, adequate bath.Short stroll to Senor Frogs.

Thanks. Yes, I knew about that hotel. I'd looked into it one time for myself (perhaps you even recommended it to me here?) and thought it seemed a great hotel, great price, in a great location (except for the lack of a pool -haha).

Suze......Someone else planned that particular trip and they picked the hotel. It was fine.I could eat 4 times a day at Shrimp Bucket!Friday night after dinner we walked up to Senor Frogs, had some drinks, made our way to Valintino's.Danced, drank, danced, you get the picture. Then hit Bali Hai for a few rounds. Then down to Coliseo's.One last round at SF, a little dancing there, then back to the hotel for a final nightcap.Fun time!!

Thanks for the details. I always go to Puerto Vallarta, so is good to know a few details about a fun trip to Mazatlan (without staying out in the golden zone).

Hola! I must say I had more fun staying "in town" because we could walk everywhere.I've stayed at the El Cid and while it is a deluxe (or was when I went!) hotel, I found it too big and we had to taxi everywhere.I always ened up eating at SB, so why not stay there! There is a lot to like about Mazatlan.Maybe its that I have always run into a retired couple who could tell that we were "tourists" and they always offered great advice. There is a huge retirement community there in Mazatlan, Canadians as well as Americans. We always ran into them while shopping.
