May weather in New Orleans

Since our trip this month has been cancelled we're thinking about going to NOLA in May next year. What kind of weather can we be expecting compared to the usual we've had in September? Thanks!

I don't know how May compares with September, as I've never been there in September. I was there over Memorial Day weekend a few years ago and it was extremely hot. As a Texan I am no stranger to heat, but it was hot even by our standards. I don't know if it's always that hot in May, but personally I would go in April if possible.

If you go to www.weather.com you can look up the historical averages for any city any time of the year. We always go to New Orleans in July. I guess I'm not as sensitive to the heat (never seems any hotter than where we live in Ohio in July) and unless you are on a swamp tour, you usually aren't more than a few steps away from air conditioning and a cool drink!

We went in mid May a few years ago and the weather was nice. It was kind of hot for a couple days near the end of our trip. The rest of the time it was really nice. One day it was actually chilly - chilly enough that we went to the mall and bought jackets.

I don't know how April could be too much different than May. Go in April. Attend the Heritage Jazz Festival, wherever it's being held. It rains. It's sunny. It's warm. It's humid. It's not hot. GO.
