May 08 trip to Alaska set!
Hello everyone,
I love these boards! Last year it helped me plan a trip to Ireland and I have now learned so much about Alaska - kudos to those in the know who take the time to help us newbies!
So excited! Yesterday got our FF 1st. class tickets for our upcoming cruisetour with Princess. We will be on the Sapphire Princess. Tour starts in Fairbanks and we pick up the ship in Whittier, ending in Vancouver.
Leaving May 18th. for land portion. I have read all the pros and cons of the cruisetours vs do it yourself land but we are very comfortable with our decision.
Celebrating our 40th anniversary with best friends who have the cabin next to us. We will be opening the two balconies. Midship, port side on Baja deck. I know it will be colder in May but that was the only time we could make it and so what, we will be ready for any and all weather! Wrapped in blankets, sipping hot totties - mmmm....!
Question: We will arrive in Whittier early in the afternoon. Thinking of doing a day glacier cruise. However we are going to be limited in our excursions so wondered since we will have the first two days on the ship glacier cruising, should we eliminate the Whittier day cruise in favor or some other excursion in a different port? Or is it really worth the $$$ Only one that fit our schedule was Whittier Blackstone Glacier Tour. Anyone know anything about them?
Thanks so much for your help

We did a 4 hour glacier cruise out of Whittier before our Coral Princess cruise last year (half price with a Toursaver coupon) and plan to do a longer one next summer. It was fabulous! You get a much better view of the glaciers on this tour than you do from your ship. I think you will love it.
