Mauna Loa eruption?
 

Someone recently posted an article here (or maybe it was Konaweb) about how Mauna Loa might be getting ready to blow her top again. However, the next day I could NOT find the message on either site. Wondering if it was removed for some reason.

I have not seen anything about it on any of the web sites, but my husband was telling me yesterday that he had heard it on the news. If I see anything, I'll try to remember to let you know.

You're right, Mitch - it was on the Konaweb forum - I saw it there too. I looked just now and it is indeed gone. There is some info that I found via Google that looked like what they posted on Konaweb, though. Hard to know whether to get alarmed about it or not; it's not very conclusive in terms of anything that's going to happen soon.

When I was in VNP last month the Park Ranger said that Mauna Loa is overdue and could be expected to blow sometime in the next couple of years.

It erupts every 20 years or so, so it's due.

But it's not the Mt. St. Helens type of eruption, so no need for any concern.

The lava will start oozing out. It is possible that some homes may be threatened. It did come within a few miles of a Hilo subdivision the last time.

But it should not affect anyone's travel plans.

I heard it on TV news. They said it was predicted as a result of the increasing number of earthquakes being recorded.
