Mauna Kea Beach Resort update
This is from the Prince Resorts Hawaii website.

Wow! That's a l-o-n-g closure. I stayed at Mauna Kea a few months before the earthquake. Loved the old, elegant feel, but agree that updating was in order. Glad that they are enlarging most of the rooms, which were small by today's standards. Certainly hope they upgrade those tiny 13" TV's! For the purists, there is always an option of not watching TV. The only downside of this whole project is that I probably won't be able to afford to stay there; it was a budget-stretcher for me in 2006 as it was. I saved my orange flip-flops, so maybe I can at least sneak onto a lounge chair on that lovely beach.

On the good side, the beach is nearly perfect now without the hotel open.

No hotel guests, but they are still limiting cars in the small lot to 50; get there early.

As of this morning's paper, now the Mauna Kea is having troubles getting one of the insurance companies to pay up:

All times are GMT -8. The time now is 04:54 AM.
