Maui with a wheelchair

For my daughter's 30th birthday I'm taking her to Maui. She's in a wheelchair and does not walk at all. Is there anywhere in Maui to get a beach wheelchair? Do you know of any boat trips that would be wheelchair friendly-sunset dinner cruises or snorkeling trips? Any other suggestions on things to do. Thanks so much.

This article is a little dated (5 years) but I still think it may contain some helpful advice for your snorkel adventure.

The rental place for the beach wheelchair still exists (5 mins from airport): www.gammie.com

Thank you for your response. Any ideas on sunset cruises or snorkeling with wheelchair accessibility?

Hi billr, just out of curiosity I went to Google and did a search for handicap cruises Maui.

If you do this will you will find a wealth of information for cruises and also other activities so that you and your daughter can really enjoy what Maui has to offer.

Wishing you two a beautiful in Maui and also in SF!!

yes- there is a long boardwalk with a ramp entrance at a wetlands area. i can't remember what it's called, but even walking it took up a good half hour. it's right along a beach (but views aren't great).

also the whole major chunk of kaanapali is paved and is on the beach, you can go whereveer you like.

can she do horseback riding (there are many horseback riding programs designed as therapy for pwd)? there are many stables on maui.

check with the army. they run a hotel on waikiki beach that is r and r, and i'll bet they have this question all the time as that beachfront rents beach wheelchairs.

you could do the drive to hana, most of the "attractions" are visible from the roadside even if you don't want to hike.

you can drive up haleakala and visit there.

the sidewalks aren't great, but you can go shopping in lahaina- it's all pretty much on one level.
