Maui Westin vs. Maui Sheraton

I need advice...

My husband, son (who will be 17 months) and I are planning are trip to Maui at the end of January. We are considering the Maui Sheraton or Maui Westin. We want something that is nice, so that we can enjoy it, but also something that is appropriate for our son.

I've read that the Westin is in Whaler's Village? Is it right in the center of town? Noisy? Since I've never been to Maui, I'm not sure what to expect. I definately don't want to be in a city, that's what we are trying to escape from.

Any adivce on the Westin vs. Sheraton would be very much appreciated. We need to make our decision this week.

Thanks...

My wife and I (40's) stayed four nights at the Sheraton this past June/July. We got it for $140 on priceline. For the price, we were very satisfied. The pool and beach front was great. The snorkeling at Black Rock was ok (not as nice as Kauai). We walked past the Westin and the pool looked more suited for kids. Both properties are within easy walking distance of Whaler's Village. It's not really a town, kind of a shopping village with a variety of shops and restaurants (eat at Hula Grill). No matter the place you stay, you will have a great time!

My husband and I stayed at the Sheraton Black Rock and loved it. We'd just come from 4 nights at the Marriott in Kauai and were disappointed at the age of the guests at the Marriott...it was mostly an older crowd. We found the Sheraton to be a younger crowd and enjoyed Maui alot more.

The Sheraton is right on the beach. We enjoyed walking up and down the beach to different restaurants.

Sorry, we've never stayed as the Westin so I can't compare.

Thanks all, I appreciate your input. I think we are going to stay at the Westin and take advantage of the ability to use the others facilities.

Much appreciated.

GRINS_MOM, if you're trying to escape from the city stay away from Kaanapali, which is overbuilt and overcrowded in our opinion. You'll feel more like you've escaped in the Wailea area, or in lush and remote Hana.

We just returned from Maui and drove our convertible all over. Kaanapali waas our least favorite area. Loved the Hana coast (stayed 2 nights at the Hotel Hana Maui), and the Wailea area, and our other hotel, Maui Prince hotel on Maluaka beach...also enjoyed seeing Haleakala.
