Maui-sugar beach area

Have been to Maui twice, stayed at the Hyatt the 1st time and rented a condo at the Mahana the 2nd, with two nights at the Maui Coast Hotel. Was thinking about this area, as more central. Haven't been to Haleakala or Iao Valley and it is closer to the airport as we will be leaving super early. The two condos we are looking at are Sugar Beach Resort or Menehune, any one been to both or either and have an opinion? Like to take long walks on the beach and it says there is over 5 miles of beach in this area to walk along.
Thanks for any info.

There are some concerns about the Sugar Beach area.
I have stayed at Menehune shores but not directly on Sugar Beach.
The problem is the beach and the water at that location on Maui. You really can't swim near Menehune shores. It is too shallow and not real clean.
Another concern is smoke from cane burn off,it can get pretty smelly.
I suggest you stay near the Kamaole beaches.

That's not the nice part of Kihei. Run-down condos and a less than great beach. Stay closer to the Kamaole end, as logandog advises.

I don't find any advantage in being central. I want to be on a great beach with good snorkeling so I don't have to drive my car and find parking to enjoy a beach day.

Thanks for your replies, do you have any suggestions for condos in Kihei, we would like to be ocean front if possible.

Hale Pau Hana is directly on Kamaole II.
