Maui Sheraton or Westin
 

Please give me some updates on these 2 hotels. Going in June for our honeymoon.<BR>Any construction?? Whats the overall opinion of each place??<BR>Thanks.

The Westin has a nice lobby, pool area, and a great beach. There will be lots of kids here because the pools are so awesome. The room was small and needed renovating back in 1999 when I was there. The bed was comfortable. Overall, I liked my stay here, but I have stayed at the Kahala Mandarian in Oahu, The Kea Lani in Maui, and the Hyatt in Kauai and I put the Westin behind these places. The Sheraton seemed to have the prime location in Kaanapali Beach because it sat on top of the Black Rock with the best section of beach. The Sheraton is an older hotel than the Westin with a nice pool, but the Westin has the better pool. Last year we drove over to Kaanapali beach, and we notice that the Westin was selling part of thier hotel into timeshares.

I stayed at the Sheraton on my honnymoon in 1988 and it was not so great then. You can almost never compare a Weston property to a Sheraton (both owned by same company). Weston is the superior chain.

The Sheraton had a major renovation in 1998 - I stayed there in 2001 and the rooms were really nice - not dated at all. I've also seen the Westin Maui rooms and if we're talking comparison of rooms - Sheraton's are better. I do agree, however, that Westin has a nicer pool area, although lots of kids. Sheraton has the best beach (swimming and snorkeling) on Kaanapali beach. In terms of service - pretty much the same.

we too want to know the better place to stay,we are a couple celebrating our 25th anniversary??

We, too will be celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary this June. I have done extensive research on this talk board and also tripadvisor.com. There are mixed reviews about each. Sounds like the rooms at the Westin are smaller and there are more kids because of the good pools, yet some people complained about the service at the Sheraton and that Sheratons reputation is not as good as Westin. We are leaning towards the Sheraton for a few nights, then on to South Maui where it is not so crowded.

We stayed at the Sheraton about a year ago, and loved it. We visited the Westin also, and it too is a very nice property. When we were there, a lot of the beachfront at the Westin was destroyed, I am not sure how it looks now.

We split our stay between the Hyatt and the Sheraton and enjoyed them both for different reasons. We are going back this summer (with the kids this time) and will probably stay at the Sheraton again.

What we liked about the Sheraton was how spread out the property is, so it never seemed crowded. It was completely sold out during our stay, but we never too many people anywhere.

Another thing we liked is the pool at the Sheraton. I know other posters have commented about the Westin's pool being nicer overall; however, I prefered the Sheraton's pool because of all the &quot;hidden grottos&quot; and bridges. It isn't just a &quot;big pool&quot;, it sort of meanders around more like a lagoon through lots of tropical plants and flowers. It was also verrry warm. The beach at the Sheraton is one of the best of all resorts in the Ka'anapali area.

Our room was oceanfront, right out on black rock. We literally looked down on the ocean. Just a beautiful setting. It had a large bathroom, fridge, microwave, coffee station, and comfortable bed.

As far as service goes, it was outstanding. Our bellman went out of his way to explain the property and the layout (which can be confusing at first if your room is out on the black rock), made sure we knew about the &quot;Sheraton Promise&quot; and to call with any questions. I ran into him later that day in the elevator, and he again asked how things were going and if there was anything he could do to make our stay more enjoyable. The front desk personnel were friendly and helpful, quick check in and check out.

One other convenient thing there is that they have a self service laundry, just outside the pool area. We stayed there during the end of our 16 day stay in Hawaii, and it was nice to have the chance to wash a few things for the end of our trip. It was great to hang out at the pool while waiting for the clothes. That was what I would call a good laundry day!
