Maui - Sheraton or Westin
 

I have been searching the internet for rates and the Sheraton and the Westin are roughly the same rate. Are there any recommendations of which one I should choose?<BR><BR>Thank you so much

Hi - If you are going as a couple I would stay at the Sheraton. Most people who stay at the Westin come to the beach in front of the Sheraton (Black Rock)to snorkel anyway. The Sheraton will be more relaxed with less kids. Depends on what time of year you are going. The beach is much nicer in front of the Sheraton. We stayed at the Kaanapali Alii Condos(next to the Westin)in May 2000 (as a couple)and walked down to Blackrock to snorkel and in 2002 stayed at the Sheraton with our kids - Sheraton has a wonderful pool for the kids and the beach is just steps away. The Westin is closer to Whaler's Village and <BR>dining choices. Not a bad walk either way. Sheraton is at one end and the Westin is at the other end of Kaanapali Beach Resort. I would still choose the Sheraton for a better atmosphere. We enjoyed not having to walk or drive anywhere for the kids to play in the ocean. There will be kids at the Sheraton but not as many as at the Westin. The Sheraton also has good dining choices on property. Nice pool bar/grill for lunch! Right before sunset every night at the Sheraton you can sit at the bar/grill, listen to Hawaiian music and watch the Cliff Diver. Would be glad to answer anymore questions. Mahalo

What's the point of staying at the Sheraton if parents like RG haul their loud screaming kids to the Sheraton pool and beach area. Why do parents try and save money at another hotel and then impose their kids on people who are paying a high price to escape their kids or are honeymooning???

Poster didn't say pool area, but rather beach, which is public.<BR><BR>Also, Westin is the same price as the Sheraton.<BR><BR>Having been to Hawaii only with my kids, I can safely say that I would NEVER go to the major resorts on my honeymoon or to escape kids. Kids rule in Hawaii, with the exception of some B&amp;B places.<BR><BR>I'd go to the high end places in Mexico or South Pacific which cater to adults.<BR><BR>Coachboy<BR><BR>PS. Stayed at Westin last year - great for Kids (pool is lotsa fun), but felt like I was in Florida. Gonna try Sheraton this Spring.

Coachboy- RG here:<BR>Have fun at the Sheraton this spring. We wont make it back until 2004. :(<BR>When we were there in spring 2002 we stayed in a standard room - oceanveiw. It was nice but rather small for 4. We asked front desk one morning if we could view other rooms. (Just curious!)The desk gave us a room card key to see all other catagories. I dont know what you have booked for this spring, but if you are taking your kids the Sheraton has an awesome family suite. Has 2 rooms really, 1/2 looks like hotel room and other 1/2 is couch area with TV and pull down bed from the wall. Kitchen area has sink, coffee pot, fridge and microwave. The room opened at ground floor with patio onto the lawn right next to the pool and path to the beach. This would be the room I would book if we stay there again. Other rooms were really big beautiful suites on the rock cliffs. Way out of our price range! Have fun.

Westin with kids... Sheraton without kids. Beach is much, much better at Sheraton. Pool is great at Westin. RG, you said pool is wonderful at Sheraton. Better than Westin? Just curious.

Hi!!<BR>Don't know if you have considered it, but for a great honeymoon trip you might want to look at the Ritz Carlton Kapalua or even the Four Seasons. We just came back from a fabulous and QUIET stay in early Dec at the Ritz. The resort is beautiful and the whole Kapalua area is breathtaking-some of the most beautiful beaches on Maui, golf, tennis, and best of all, it caters to adults!!! There were no screaming kids anywhere-just adults enjoying their peaceful vacations. If you can afford it, go for it-you won't be disappointed.However, we did go offseason and the whole island was pretty quiet, including Kanaapali so if you are going to the Sheraton it shouldn't be too bad. Enjoy your trip!!

Walk by Sheraton &amp; Westin on our honeymoon trip last July. From an exterior perspective, I much preferred the look of the Sheraton. Seemed a little more Hawaiaan. By the look of the Westin balconies, which were on top of each other, the rooms must be pretty small.<BR>FYI - we priced Sheraton at $325 OV for our stay and Kea Lani at $320 garden view w/5th night free. Chose Kea Lani for the quieter area of Wailea and got upgraded to OV. Kea Lani rocked! VERY romantic and HUGE rooms. Also had adult-only pool. Check into if the others have that, it was an awesome plus.<BR><BR>Just to add to your choices a little.

We stayed at the Sheraton on our honeymoon and had a fabulous time! I highly recommend it. The location on the beach is awesome, the staff, rooms and on-site restaurants are great. Totally loved it!<BR><BR>:) Missy

Chris,<BR>Have you looked into staying in Wailea. We were at the Grand Wailea in Sept and there were very few kids. They also have an adult only pool section with pool and 2 jacuzzi's. Also there is the 4Seasons and the Fairmont both didn't seem to have too many kids. I will guarantee you that it is more expensive than the Starwood properties (Sheraton &amp; Westin) in Kaanapali. Lot quieter too (for better or worse). btw, are you a Starwood member? You could probably get discounts with the free membership. We've stayed twice at the Westin, loved it both times, and received 35% off room rates as Starwood members. Just a thought. btw, I liked the Grand Wailea better than the Westin, but it cost me more too. Frank

For XXX question - The pool at the Westin just seemed more like a water park, crowded, lounges and chairs really close together. Not much of view of ocean from pool area either. The pool at the Sheraton is more lagoon like with large pool that feeds in to a lazy river that connects to the kiddy pool with lots of water falls, bridges, plants, two pool bar/grills for lunch and drinks. You can see the sunset and the ocean from pool/grill area. We just liked the spread out feel of the Sheraton, but it still has a fun lagoon river for the kids and great beach steps away. Their were quite a few honeymooners there also and area is big enough for people to have there privacy. You can also rent a cabana on the beach for the day or week. I dont think the Westin has cabanas.

RG, thanks for the response. If I was going alone with my husband, I'd stay at the Sheraton. Our kids loved the waterslide at the Westin. About the view, if you are in the lounge chairs closest to the walkway/beach area, the view is great. That's where we planted ourselves everyday. That part of the pool area gives a great ocean view. Oh, to be there right now! I dream of going back to Maui! Thanks for the Sheraton info.
