maui restaurant advice

Is ferraro's at the four seasons a good choice for a special 25th anniversary dinner? We are staying at the FS for a week in May, and thought it might be nice to have dinner at the hotel that night. We are already booked for the rest of the week at Nick's,Spago,Swan court,Sarrento's, and mama's. Any opinions out there? Thanks!

HI just back from Two weeks in maui and kauai. Spagos was disappointing and very expensive it cost us almost 200 dollars for two appetizers, Two dinners and one dessert with no drinks. The menu only had fresh fish only one seafood dish(Which they were out of) and pork chops. The atmosphere at the four seasons was wonderful but not for that price. All of the restaurants you have chosen will run you almost 200 dollars for two people. If you are willing to spend that each night then that is okay. The only one I wouldn't waste my time at is swan court at the hyatt. It was awful. Any other info email me at [email protected]

Don't miss "Humu" right next door at the Grand Wailea and for one of the best in the world go to Gerrard's in Lahaina.

I must respectfully disagree with TMWeddle--do yourself a favor and save your money and skip Humuhumunukunukuapua'a at the Grand Wailea. It's a neat place for cocktails, but the food leaves a lot to be desired, especially at their prices.

I challenge you to find a local who would recommend eating at Humu's. There are much better choices available.

I'd chose Capicshe? for Italian over both Sarento's and Ferraro's, and scratch the Swan Court for Pacific`O, I`o, or David Pauls in Lahaina. Or replace some a few of those pricier choices with something more mid-priced. The Seawatch in Wailea impresses me much more than Spago. Plantation House in Kapalua is another excellent choice.

Well each person has had their own experiences, tastes, and opinions but we had a wonderful meal at Humu's and it was recommended by a local.

We found Gerrard's through a Zagat listing of romantic restaurants or would never have known about it. It's not on the water but it is wonderful - I would definitely return.

I loved ferraro's. The food and setting were both excellent. I would hesitate to recommend it for a special anniversary dinner because it is not very private and is more casual than the other restuarants you mentioned. When we ate at Spago, we had a very private booth and a beautiful view. Unlike the other poster, we had a great meal there.

We also had a very disappointing meal at Humu's - I guess it depends on what you order. It is fun for a drink though.
My first and second choice would be Sarento's (very romantic - reserve in advance a table by the beach) and Nick's. Also, for another night make sure to go to Sansei - excellent food!!

We totally agree that Spago is not worth it. We had a wonderful table with a beautiful view but it was so not worth the money. They are just too "proud" of themselves. The service was less than spectacular. They brought my husband the wrong entree twice and all they did for us was give us free dessert. The food was excellent though.

Thanks to you all for your comments.
I think we will have to eat our way through our trip to Maui and try as many of these good recommendations as possible!! Since we are staying at the Four Seasons, I thought it might be a little more special to dine at Ferraro's for our anniversary, but sounds like one of the other suggestions might be better. Thanks again!

OK, purchasing a gift certificate for a honeymoon couple staying at the Ritz in Kapalua.

David Pauls or Plantation House?

Your thoughts?

Stevemac Apr 4th, 2005 11:14 AM

I'll be the first to vote. Both have very good food but David Paul's is in the middle of Lahaina with no views. Plantation House has gorgeous views, no crowds, and great food. My wife and I will be there for our 30th this summer and PH is our favorite overall restaurant.

Just ate at the Plantation House this past Easter. Great views, good food, okay service. Wouldn't say it was the best dinner of my trip but it was good. We had reservations at David Paul's for the evening before Easter but canceled because it was raining pretty hard and we had wanted to walk around Lahaina before and after dinner. We went to the Banyan Tree instead (right at the Ritz Carlton). You might want to consider a dinner certificate to that restaurant also. The food was excellent, as was the service. Very nice views also.

Thanks for the feedback.

Think I will go with Plantation House.

They purchased a hotel package and I'm not sure what it included. I'm sure a couple of meals at the hotel is in their plans.

Not only am I going to purchase the gift certificate from Plantation House as part of the wedding gift, I've had the concierge at the hotel I'm staying at make Saturday night dinner reservations. Should be awesome.

Did I mention the reservation is for me or ;-)

Don't want to drive all the way up there and not enjoy the dinner and view.

We ((L)) Mama's the most, and in Wailea: Humuhumunukunukuapua'a (suggest earliest reservation for waterside ((#))((S)) view), Spago, Sarento's (suggest earliest reservation for waterfront ((#))((S))view). :S-
Outside from the Wailea dining area, we ((L)) A Saigon Cafe and Manana Garage.

Out of Plantation House and Hula Grill, which is better seafood with a view?
