Maui Pool comparisons?
 

Would someone kindly compare the pools, waterslides, and water activities at the newly redone Maui Marriott, the Westin at Kaanapali, and the Grand Wailea? First, are they all heated? We would probably be visiting in June or July, so that might not be a factor. But I remember freezing pool temperatures on a previous January visit. I know Hawaii air temps are pretty constant, but what about summer pool temps. Do you need a heated pool then? <BR> <BR>Second, please compare the pool fun factor for gradeschoolers at these three resorts. <BR> <BR>Thank you very much. <BR> <BR>Steve

I don't know anything about the Marriott, but the Westin can't compare to the Grand Wailea for fun factor and size!

All the activities are crap !, AVOID !

No contest, go to the Grand Wailea. The other two hotels aren't in the same league.

I would forget all about Hawaii & go to Florida instead. Much more fun !

Dave's right on this one. The Grand Wailea is the Disneyland of pools. Nothing else comes close. JMHO.

The Grand Wailea has the ultimate water playground. Incredible water slide and amazing water elevator.

Any reason the Hyatt is not being considered? Its incredible pools, slide and tunnel are arguably the best and most child-friendly of any hotel on Maui.

There is a great deal of racism in Hawaii. Reconsider.

There's no question the pool at the Hyatt is very good and one of the best in Hawaii. When the resort opened 20 years ago the pool was a topic of conversation among local people because it was so revolutionary here in Hawaii. <BR> <BR>It has stood the test of time because it's still good today. However, compared to the Grand Wailea, in my opinion, I don't think it's as good. The Grand Wailea is a newer and more upscale property. Also, I'm looking at it from the kid's perspective, although adults like myself can have a lot of fun too. <BR> <BR>There are other very good hotel pools like the Westin Maui or Hilton Waikoloa on the Big Island that are fun and comparable to the Hyatt, but I think they're slightly less fun than the Grand Wailea. That's just my opinion.

Be sure to take some water purifying tablets & keep your mouth(s) closed whilst swimming. It could help prevent the spead of AIDS ( which is endemic in the islands, unfortunately ).

Thanks for all the responses. I didn't consider the Hyatt because I read somewhere that it was not on a particularly good stretch of Kaanapali beach. I'll reconsider the Hyatt due to the positive posts. Thanks. <BR> <BR>Steve

Hi Steve, <BR>I just got back from Maui and stayed at both the Hyatt and the Sheraton. Eventhough I perferred the service at the Sheraton and the rooms at the Sheraton over the Hyatt(received a compilmentary upgrade to an oceanfront suite, I would still rate the Hyatt's pool and pool area and design as one of the best in Maui. It is huge, tiled with mosaics and has serval water falls. It is absoutely beautiful especially at night. Have fun.

If the pool is properly chlorinated, you don't need to worry about AIDS or any other bugs. If you are concerned about the quality of the pool, ask before you make a reservation. <BR> <BR>If you can SMELL a strong chlorine scent, it's in the air and not in the pool. Also make sure they maintaim proper pH of the pool. <BR> <BR>A good place will check the chemicals every hour. I don't know what the requirements are for Hawaii (maybe call the Hawaii Public Health Department or see if they have a web site). <BR>
