which island in HI would u reccomend someone go to for their first trip?

great pics btw... what type of camera did you use to take them? I am going to purchase a new camera specifically for my trip

Thanks for the terrific photos. I read your Maui comments on tripadvisor and thought they were spot on. So when are you going to the Big Island so you can provide a comparison/contrast of the major Hawaiian islands? 8-)

Having now been to Oahu, Kauai and Maui, I'd have to say that Kauai is still my personal favorite because I like the handful of lagoon environments found there - plus I like the ruggedness of the north shore, and I prefer peace and quiet to lots of activities. If you are like me, then go to Kauai. Also, if you are looking to do a lot of hiking/camping etc, then again, Kauai is the best choice (although ALL the islands offer some degree of this).

However, for most folks, Maui is probably the best overall choice. It seemed to have the best collection of beaches (probably as many good beaches as all the other Hawaiian Islands combined) and a really good balance of activities, dining choices, accomodations etc. Overall a pretty nice, well-balanced package (best balanced of all the islands - at least the ones' I been to).

If you want big city excitement, then Oahu is the place (though it too has it's quiet spots - and a number of good beaches (second only to Maui)).

Bluefan - hello again! Next on the agenda is back to the Cook Islands, then I think we'll try the US & British Virgin Islands. Not yet been to the Caribbean and would like to be able to compare it to Hawaii and the South Pacific. So many wonderful places. So little time (and money).

I enjoyed your pictures! I agree with your assessment of Maui vs. Kauai. We visited Maui first and loved it. But then we went to Kauai and loved it even more! Can you let us know when you put your trip report on Epinions?

Opps, forgot to answer part of Brittany's question:

Most photos taken with the pint-sized Konica KD-500Z 5 megapixel digital. Not that happy with it though as it's VERY slow to process the image and rather fragile in bad weather. I think you could do better. A few shots were taken with disposable cameras (mostly the underwater photos).

Just looked at the Maui photos! They are wonderful. It will be our first trip there next week, and your photos make me very excited!! May I ask what type of camera was used for these photos? You captured some beautiful scenes along with some very close up photographs of flowers. Was it digital or 35mm? Debbie
