Maui or Kona with Toddler- best beaches??
Hi!
We're planning a vacation trip with our toddler to either Maui or Kona. I'm looking for accommodations in walking distance to a nice sandy beach. I noticed that some of the vacation rentals I find are near rocky cliffs. Which beaches are best for splashing around with a toddler? (sand, gradual drop off, gentle currents) Are there any resorts with fun shows or amenities that would be toddler friendly? Any other tips for travel to either Maui or Kona with a toddler would be much appreciated!! Thank you |
How old is the toddler and what is your budget?

The reason I ask is that Kona Village Resort is a great place for youngsters, they have kids' programs and the two lu'au every week start with a keiki hula, where all the kids get to participate. It's high end, but it (almost all) inclusive, and very secure. Go to www.davidskvr.net and take a look

Maui simply because of the gases from Kilauea on Big Island are too much for many small kids.

I go to Kona Village frequently (3+ times a year) and have never once been bothered with VOG. It all depends on the wind, and while VOG is not unknown in the North Kona/Kohala region, I certainly wouldn't skip the west side of the island because it might happen. I wouldn't take a young child to see the volcano, however.

We took our then 2 year old to Maui in 2008 and stayed in South Kihei, across the street from Kamaole II beach. It was perfect, once we crossed the street. I think the apartment complex was Maui Banyan.
