Maui or Kaua'i

We are trying to decide on Maui or Kaua'i for 10-14 days in the middle of Feb. We like hiking, sunbathing snorkeling, pretty much anything involving nature. A couple of hours of shoppng would be plenty. Nightlife for us would probaly be a moonlight stroll. We will probably spend a few days on O'ahu again before heading back to the midwest. Your Suggetions would be appreciated.

With that much time, you might consider the Big Island instead of Maui / Kauai. 2-3 nts on Oahu is plenty but 10 days or so on Maui or Kauai would be a bit much (they're not that big).

With that much time, you could do both. The islands are quite different from each other.

We prefer Kauai and it's natural beauty. It is less congested and commercialized.

There are some awesomer hiking trails, good sun bathing and decent snorkeling. If Feb, you will have the opportunity to do some whale watching too.

Not as much shopping on Kauai but there are some really neat places to explore.

Enjoy your trip, whichever island you visit.

More beaches are unswimmable on Kauai in Feb than Maui, if being in the water matters.

It matters to me so I would choose Maui that time of year and take the time to spend a few nights in Hana and also explore upcountry. You might even consider a day trip to do the mule ride to the Hanson Colony on Molokai, a spiritual journey, with perhaps the most breathtaking land in all of hawaii.

Of course with that much time BI would be perfect. I've lost count of my trips, and have yet to do BI.

Remember, if you are open to the possibilities, there are no wrong choices - it's all good!!!

We had 14 days in Feb. a couple years ago and flew into Maui, spent 5 nts on Maui and 8 on Kauai.

Seeing the whales in Feb. is one of my greatest travel experiences. I was truly blown away.

Our greatest hike ever was on Kauai. The Awaaapuhi/cliffs/Nualolo(sp.)Trail. Fabulous on top of the world views out over the ocean. We have done some hiking on Maui but Kauai definitely has better hiking.

Feb. is considered the rainy season so we did stay on the southside of both islands--we had great weather though. The northside of Kauai is beautiful and we spent a lot of time there--an easy drive.

That said, I would also love to visit the Big Island. You can't make a bad decision--all the island are beautiful.

You can find what you describe on either island.

While Maui offers more in the way of nightlife or shopping, there's plenty of parts of the island that are more low-key so you could focus only on nature activities either place.
