Maui on a budget

Looking to travel to Maui in mid July. 2 people, 10 days. Can we do lodging, car, food and entertainment for $2500. Any tips or recommendations for budget travel in Maui is greatly appreciated.

Minus the entertainment probably, is there any way you can travel any other time mid July is prime time, I was checking around some dates to see and from mid July a car comes out to close to $550.00 and rental condo with kitchen 3 star around $1480.00 same car and rental for mid September and each are about $250.00 to $300.00 cheaper and thats without doing too much research hope this helps.

Sure you can for 10 days. How many nights is that- easier to determine costs?

You won't have a beach-front room in a hotel with a fancy pool area and numerous fine dining experiences.

www.vrbo.com for a condo. Kihei is usually cheapest. Lots of low-key places to eat. Booze can be expensive, stock up for booze and basics at Costco. Entertainment means different things to different people. Stay away from paid activities (like Ziplines).

I think you can if you pick a very reasonably priced hotel or better yet find a condo or room with kitchentte. And keep your food budget pretty basic. There's lots of nice food to be had in the Hawaiian islands, that isn't only in expensive restaurants. And watch the 'entertainment' budget. I think you can drop a LOT of money doing the fancy activities like helicopter rides, sunset catamaran sails, etc. but there's also lots of free or cheap things that are great to do. Drive up Haleakala one day, walk around Lahaina, etc.

We stayed Wailea and would agree that Kihei could be a good option. We stayed in Wailea and found it advantageous to pick up food for lunches, wine, etc at the Safeway. I'm sure we could have saved more had we stopped at the Walmart near the airport.

Kihei is a good option as a base it interconnects with routes that will take you towards Lahaina or back towards the beginning of the road to Hana, fairly easily.

Thank you. We are happy sight seeing, snorkeling on our own, etc. Would like to catch a luau and maybe a nice dinner or two as i've read about all the great dining. Will start looking more at Kihei for lodging. Condo may be a better option for us.

Anyone familiar with Kale Hai O Kihei?

We have found a number of budget saving devices over the years. Check out http://mauiweek.wordpress.com/ for my ideas. You should be able to get a car for around $25/day. And yes a condo, with a kitchen is a MUST.

Hale Kamaole
Kamaole Sands
Maui Kamaole
Are all affordable condo complexes, each with 2 pools, nice landscaping, etc., and are right across from Kamaole Beach Park.
South Kihei is also very close to many great beaches and snorkeling spots.
VRBO would be a best bet, but they are all also represented by several rental companies, if you prefer not going through owners.

And yes, condos are the way to go if you have a budget; nice outdoor grills, have a picnic in the park across the street, shop at Safeway (there are a couple of supermarkets in Kihei); easy to do everything on your budget.

Kale Hai O Kihei

Thank you for all your input. Alot of great tips, however, think we might blow the budget. So much to see and do...
