Now I understand Cottonqueen, sorry I jumped so fast on your comment. The guide book we were using for the Hana Road also said the everything but the stone church was wiped out in the 1946 tsunami.

Aloha jimcolorado,

Thanks for taking the time to write up your trip report. I'm starting to plan a month in Kailua/Lanikai next summer and am looking into places to rent. Would you mind posting or emailing me with the details of the place you were at? I'd probably put your place lower on my list(can't live without fans!).

Thanks,
kim ([email protected])

Thanks for the report!

I am amazed a family of 4 can survive on 3 rolls of toilet paper for 6 days, LOL!

HappyCheesehead, I should have said that we cheated somewhat and split the two-ply into one-ply and it gave us twice as much.

Extra points for resourcefulness!

Had fun reading the trip report=) I always wonder what places people decide to visit and why when they plan their vacations to Hawaii. I'm glad you got to meet SOE locals at the church laau. Lord though, I nearly cried reading your descriptions of the food you had. What I deseperately miss most about being away from home...
