Maui Marriott vs Westin

I will be in Maui in Feb and have narrowed down my hotel search between The Marriott and the Westin. Any help to swing my choice would be appreciated.

I stayed at the Maui Marriott last year and we were very disappointed. It is pretty old and run down. They have been refurbishing it, but even the refurbished hotel rooms and the timeshare rooms were not worth the high $$ we paid. The only good feature about the property is their pool, which is great. But it was also very needed since there was no beach whatsoever in front of the resort!! It had been washed out, which I hear is a regular occurrence. I advise staying elsewhere for the $$. It's billed as a 5-star, but we really thought it rates about a 3-star (but at a 5-star price!)

Which Westin are you considering? The hotel or the new timeshare property? The hotel is near the Marriott, so you may not have a beach either. Perhaps others who know the schedule of that occurrance can advise as far as Feb. It may not be a problem then. Also, I haven't stayed at the hotel. However, I did tour the new timeshare property, which is a ways up the beach, and it is absolutely gorgeous. I plan to stay there if we ever go back to Maui. Oh, the rooms are heavenly!! I can't imagine that you wouldn't be pleased. I wouldn't mind paying the high price to stay there.

Enjoy your trip!

My wife and I stayed at the Westin at Kaanapali last Sept. for 9 days and really enjoyed the convenience of its location. Being next to the Whalers Village has its advantages with two very good restaurants (The Hula Grill & Leilani's) as well as being in the center of all the other resorts, you don't have to walk far to see them. I had signed up to be a Starwood member (free to do) and was upgraded to an ocean front room without asking. The Westin was great and would go back without any hesitation. Have fun!

I agree with the other posters. The Marriott is (despite a multi million dollar renovation) blah and boring. I think all the money went into the pool...and they definitely should have worked on the rooms instead.

In addition to being the nicer hotel, the Westin also has a wonderful pool complex. I think there are actually 5 pools connected by waterslides. The Westin is the better choice.

We'll be at the Westin Hotel the last week in January, and what about the beach? Is there one??
