Maui Marriott?

My husband and I are considering the Maui Marriott for an October stay. Has anyone stayed at this property? Is the resort in a good location on the island? Any advice would be appreciated.

I needed similar information about a Marriott in the Caribbean and someone here directed me to www.flyertalk.com.

It's a website devoted to Frequent Flyers/Frequent Guests and the people there post on every imaginable aspect of travel.

Anyway, I'd go there, click on "Forums" and on the resultant screens locate "Hotel Programs" which should lead you to "Marriott Rewards".

Do a search on "maui marriott" and you'll find scads of reviews of Marriotts and all the other brand names they own/manage , opinions, disections etc. etc.

Also, try www.tripadvisor.com and search on "maui lodgings" and you'll find trip reports on the various hotels.

Never stayed there myself - (used Hyatt Regency Maui, next door).

Marriott's location is ok (on Kannapali Beach's hotel row), but they are in the midst of converting it from 100% hotel to a hotel-timeshare combo.

I would think that between both sites I listed above that you'll get a fair idea of what it's all about.

There are two Marriotts - one run by Outrigger - on Maui. I'll assume you mean the one on Kaanapali. We have stayed there and really enjoyed the location. Many people feel Kaanapali is too crowded and prefer the Wailea area, but I do not think it will be crowded in October.

The Marriott Outrigger Maui is in Wailea. We will be staying there on our next trip in August. We have visited Wailea several times, but this will be our first stay in that part of Maui.

I have stayed at both Marriott properties in Maui. My family prefers the Marriott in Wailea. It is more spread out and not as congested as the other property. But as was mentioned in the previous post in October it should not be very crowded.

Thanks for the advice. Does anyone know if the Wailea Marriott is also a timeshare property?

It is not.

If you're considering Wailea, you might also want to research the Renaissance Wailea (Renaissance brand is owned by Marriott). I understand it to be next door to the Marriott Wailea

You can research it using the same links I gave you earlier.

The Reniassance Wailea is very nice too. They have a wonderful beach. We stayed there for 3 weeks a year and a half ago. It is a few resorts down from the other Wailea Marriott. We liked both.

We stayed at the Marriott Maui last summer (traded a guest room for a 1 BR w/ LR and small kitchen) - the rooms had nice hawaiian furnishings and decor and all were ocean view. The pool there is fantastic! While in Maui, we went down to look at the Renaissance in Wailea and were not impressed. The Maui Marriott is withing walking distance of many nice restaurants and shops - I would (and will) go back there when in Maui. Did you know that the Maui Marriott is the number 1 time share for Marriott?

jett: My husband and I will be staying at the Maui Marriott also in October through a Marriott exchange. We are excited to go because we have heard nothing but good things about this property (as far as the timeshare part goes). We stayed many, many years ago at the Hyatt and loved it, too, although it is at the southern end of Kaanapali. We are also staying at the Marriott Wailea for a few days on this trip and will love the difference in these two parts of the island. Good luck with your planning. Jan
