Maui Kai Condos

I apologize if this gets posted twice..I'm trying to get it to post in the hawaii area..and not the general US area.

Message: I was just at www.mauikai.com looking over their condos..and they seem too good to be true. Rates are under $200/night for a 1 bedroom condo with central a/c...all units have a balcony overlooking the ocean. Has anyone stayed here before....or can you offer advice on whether or not to this seems like a good place to stay...going for my honeymoon next june but can't really afford to spend more than $200/night. Thanks

We stayed there last summer and are returning this August with several other families. It is an older unit, right on the ocean. The units are individually decorated and some have been updated, some have not. We like it but it is not plush. It is however extremely comfortable. You can do a search on the MauiKai on this website and pull up other reviews too. We prefer a corner unit because it has windows on three sides. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

Do you have any pictures from your last stay that you could possibly post ? I saw one corner unit on vrbo.com that was really nice, but I'm curious what the "average" unit looks like. I don't need it to look like a 3* hotel room, just want to make sure that its clean and comfortable. How was the pool and the beach in front of the condos ? I heard its not great directly in front but I'm curious approximately how far of a walk is it to a decent beach. Overall, did you enjoy your stay there ? Were there any problems ? I've tried searching for additional reviews but nothing is coming up when I search "MauiKai" Thanks for all your help.

Here's a link to a site that has 4 units available with pics. http://alohacondos.com/mauikai/index.html

The owner here also describes the condo and room placement.

I've posted before and I too suggest a search of posts. I love this place.

Aloha

As well as Maui Kai, the Mahana is next door, to the south, and the Embassy Resort is to the north, then Kaanapali Shores condos; so there's a good choice around there. You'll be very close to a shopping area with Star Market etc as well as the fave Ozakuwa deli(sp) & the fish "ready to cook" place whose name I've forgotten :( Last November we got best rate at Mahana from American Airlines and it was WELL under $200/nt for a 1bed/1bath.

Good hunting.

If you do select the Maui Kai, I would recommend a corner unit. Its nice to have windows on three sides.....feels more open. Also some of the units have extended the living room all the way to the edge, therefore, you don't have a traditional lanai (outside balcony). You can still open the windows wide and feel like you are sitting outside, but you aren't. Therefore if that's important to you, make sure you ask for a traditional lanai at the time of the reservation.
I'm not quite sure what units have/have not a lanai. We were in 601 and it did not have a lanai, rather a larger living room.

In researching the Mahana (next door to the Maui Kai), I ended up finding a unit for rent that I will most likely use (renting directly from the owner). Thanks to everyone for their help. I was pretty depressed when first I thought I was going to have to pay the resort rate of around $400/night to stay in a nice ocean front room while on my honeymoon.
