Maui in mid-November

Hi,

We are planning a week in mid-november at Maui. I understand it's beginning of so-called winter in hawaii ;-)
We want to rent something close to the beach, for walking on the beach and occasional swimming (due to weather). What area do you suggest? How would be swimming condition and water temperature etc? Is Napili beach good, or shall we look toward south beaches?

Thanks!

I vacation in Maui (Kaanapali Beach) every year. Are you looking for a resort or a condo rental? The Napili Bay/Kapalua beaches are very nice, as are the Kaanapali, Kihei and Wailea beaches. Water temps should be at least in the mid 70's - swimming conditions will vary, depending on the current weather conditions.

I have been to Maui twice in November now. I think you'd probably want to stay away from Kapalua because the beaches there had dangerous swimming conditions during that time. Other than that, Kaanapali and Kihei/Wailea/Makena were fine. Makena's big beach had rough waves though but swimming was still allowed. Didn't go to Napili during that time but think it was ok too. Enjoy! It's my favorite time to go to the islands! Low crowds, and great weather.

South Maui has better ocean conditions in roughly October - May; West Maui is better the other months. The weather will be warm all over Maui. You can't tell when 'winter' swells or rains will crop up.

There are nice condos at Sugar Beach, then you need to look into South Kihei around the Kamaole Beach Parks and then still farther south into Wailea and Makena.

Rates should be good up to the Thanksgiving season. They shoot up then and go way, way down between then and the Christmas holidays.

The weather is beautiful year round, the water temp doesn't seem to change that much - but the north shores of all the islands gets much rougher surf in the winter time. The south shores of the islands will be much drier and smaller surf conditions.
I am guessing the water temp will be in the mid 70's and the air temp in the mid 80's.

I've been to Maui four times in early November and it's been great each time. Stayed in South Maui but also went to Kapalua during that period and had no problems. South shore should be fine and you can always hop in the car toward Lahaina when the mood strikes and the weather is good.

I am in the Wailea/Makena camp.
We are renting this place in Wailea next February. It's a short walk through the complex to Keawakapu Beach and it is an easy walk to other Wailea Beaches.

It can be iffy north of Kaanapali that time of the year (Napili-Kapalua) and can get wet and windy, but it is hard to predict this far in advance. In contrast, the south side of Maui is almost nice and sunny all year long. Surf generally is up for the north side in winter.
