Maui: Hyatt Regency vs.Marriott Wailea vs. Sheraton
Hi all,

Looking for opinions on Maui lodging. The choices under consideration are: Hyatt Regency, Marriott Wailea and the Sheraton.

Of particular concern are:

1) Crowds (ability to get a lounge chair, waits for breakfast)

2) Parking

3) Proximity to shopping, restaurants and other activities

I know the Sheraton has the nicest beach area of the 3. Pools seem to be nicest at the Hyatt (except the adult pool at the Marriott seems to get a lot of points). We considered the Westin, too, but it sounds like a nightmare in terms of parking and crowds.

We would be in maui in late October. It would just be 2 of us. No kids.

Thanks all!

Well in late October you should toss the crowds consideration. You won't have that to deal with no matter where you stay.

I've stayed at the Hyatt several times (3 or 4 - can never remember) I love the hotel, the pool the location at the end of Kaanapali Beach, the proximaty to Whalers Village, shopping and restaurants.

We've also stayed at the Marriott Ocean Club and really liked it but walked down to the Hyatt and wished we had again stayed there.

We were in Maui last October and stayed at the Hyatt and the Sheraton. I agree with you that the pools are nicer at the Hyatt and that the Sheraton has the better beach location. However, it's not that long of a walk from the Hyatt to the main part of Kaanapali Beach.

As far as parking, the Hyatt had 2 free lots. At the Sheraton I think self-park was free with a room key and they had valet for a charge.

Both are a walk to Whalers Village for shopping and restaurants (the Sheraton may be a little closer). But I think the Hyatt has better on-property restaurants than the Sheraton (at least we thought so). And if I remember correctly, their pool is open a few hours later.

I haven't stayed at the Marriott Wailea but I know people who have and liked it. I think they have a nice infinity pool. I don't remember them having much of a beach directly near the hotel though.
