Maui - Hyatt or Westin

Maui - Hyatt or Westin
My husband and I are going to Maui for a week for our 10th anniversary at the end of Jan. - we are staying at the grand wailea for 4 nights but also need to decide where to stay between the Hyatt or Westin for an additional 4 nights - Any advice on the best bet?

We didn't stay at either but walked around them when we were in Maui last summer. I'm not a huge fan of the Hyatt there -- it just looks to me like it doesn't belong on the beach! Obviously, I prefer the Westin (although the Hyatt pool is really nice, too).

You may want to check out the stargazing tour at the Hyatt it was really neat. Happy anniversary and enjoy your time.

Stayed at the Westin this past June and it was great! Rooms were very comfortable. Their pools are great too. Hyatt was beautiful but I liked the fact that Westin was a lot closer to Whalers Village. You may want to check out the stargazing tour at the Hyatt it was really neat. Happy anniversary and enjoy your time.

We visited the Hyatt last week while we were on Maui. It's a beautiful place with a great pool. However, the bartender at the pool bar (not the cave bar in the pool)said they were going to be tearing up and remodeling the area in a couple of weeks. Don't know if that will affect the pool or not. You might call and ask before you book.

This January?? Yikes, you better make some reservations fast.
That said -- we stayed at Maui Westin in Oct 2006 and like it alot. It is close to a lot of activity [Whalers Village] that may or may not be a draw for you. They were just rennovating so the rooms should be nicer. The hotel is nice, and the public areas are busy. The pools are busy too.
We went to the Hyatt for the Drums of the Pacific luau. The hotel seemed much more tranquil and serene. There wasn't as much hubbub. It was more upscale as far as we could tell.
It is not all that far from Whalers Village, but it is further than the Westin. I think that has an upside.
If you have a car, it doesn't matter all that much which one you stay in.
IF we went to Maui again, the Hyatt would be more our style. See
