Maui: Hyatt or Fairmont?
 

Narrowing down my choices in Maui. I think we're down to the Hyatt or the Fairmont. It's about $125 additional per night at the Fairmont but that would provide more room with the all-suite accomodations. Could go for the Hyatt and the one regular room would run about $125 less per night than the Fairmont but would be a regular room. To add the additional room at the Hyatt (even with the 1/2 price promotio) it gets a little out of control financially.

Bottom line: Hyatt or the Fairmont?

In your situation (traveling with kids) I would prefer to have more room and would go with the Fairmont. But that's just me...

We spent 18 nights at the Hyatt in March/April. At first it wasn't so bad (myself, husband, 2 kids ages 3 & 5)But after the first week or so, it was getting hard to live in what was a comfortable, but standard sized hotel room. With kids, my vote is cast for the Fairmont. Keep in mind Wailea seems a little more laid back than Kaanapali and each area has it own feel. You will enjoy either resort, they are both very nice.

It sounds like you have kids - so I would say Fairmont. But if it were just
a couple I would say Hyatt. I prefer
the Hyatt resort overall - but I did
appreciate the Fairmont when we traveled
with our son.

Both are very nice resorts and you will
be happy with either choice.

Thanks for your response. You think the Fairmont is better for kids? I would think the Hyatt is better since the pool is supposed to be very elaborate at the Hyatt. Why do you prefer the Fairmont over the Hyatt? I have two kids -- 14 and 10 -- and thought the Hyatt would be better for them. The Fairmont and Wailea in general sounded more like a couples area. Thoughts?

the hyatt and the kaanapali area would definitely be better in my opinion for 10 and 14 yr olds. we will be there in 3 weeks with 3 boys, 7,12,13, and theres much more of a kid friendly atmosphere than wailea. dont get me wrong, wailea is wonderful, but for an older crowd. much quieter at night, not as much in walking distance. we bring wailkie-talkies and the kids can walk to whalers village in kaanapali, orjust walk by the beach and check out other hotels. also the hyatt pool is incredible. Travel channel just named the hyatt in maui one of the best hawaiin resorts, enjoy!

I suggested the KL for a family only because of the extra room in the suite.
If I was choosing a hotel for the pool,
grounds etc.... it would absolutely be the Hyatt. Much more enjoyable hotel.

Either way - you and the kids will enjoy
Maui. Both are good choices.
