Maui Hotels Narrowing Down -- Part 2

At the suggestions of several people, I've done further research (including rates) and found some interesting deals. Traveling with two adults and two kids (14 year old male, 10 year old female). Bottom line: can get two rooms in Hyatt for a few dollars more than the one suite in the Fairmont. These are apparently both beautiful hotels, but they are also different areas. I've heard so much about both hotels. For those familiar with both hotels -- and understanding of the who is in my traveling party -- would you go for the two rooms with mountain view (e.g. two bathrooms) at the Hyatt or the one-suite with partial ocean view(e.g. two sleeping areas yet one bathroom)at the Fairmont?

So let me get this straight. You can get two rooms at the Hyatt for the price of one room at the Kea Lani? If you stay at the Kea Lani, were you planning on getting two rooms or just one? Because as much as this hurts to say, if you can get two rooms at the Hyatt, I would stay there. Why would you want to pack everyone in one room for your trip to Maui? As much as I love the Kea Lani, I would probably have to go with having two rooms at the Hyatt instead of one if you're only planning on getting one room at the Kea Lani. If you're planning on getting two rooms at the Kea Lani, I'd choose the Kea Lani hands down over the others.

I also stayed at the Kea Lani for my honeymoon in Maui but think with the scenario you posed, I would choose the Hyatt. The kids will be in heaven with a little space of their own....and so will you I would guess.
Also, depending on your kids and how independent they are, there is Whalers Village (like an outdoor mall) not far away...they could always explore there also.
I would definitely choose Kea Lani/Wailea for a more romantic/secluded trip but it sounds like Hyatt would work much better for you. And don't get me wrong...it will also be very romantic - just closer to the action.

I've stayed at both places and I'm returning to Kaanapali 1n 4 weeks with my 3 sons and I agree with MMN. The hyatt would be better location with kids..especially the 2 bathrooms. Not as low key as Wailea, more activities like Whalers village, Black Rock and general people watching. Kea Lani is nice but the area was too quiet for my family. Good luck and have fun!

Thanks very much. The reality is strictly from a financial perspective the Kealani is actually less for the one suite when compared to the two regular rooms with the special promotion at the Hyatt. I've heard great things about both hotels so I guess there is no real wrong decision. This is a very special trip for our family and want it to work for all of us. What I'm getting from the response is for a couple wanting more of a romantic and quieter setting, go for the Kealani. But for the entire family -- which certainly includes my two kids -- Hyatt (with the special promotion that gives us a separate bedroom)might be overall better. After all, the Hyatt's still a great hotel, right?

Absolutely! Don't worry, save those sweat beads for the wonderful days under the sun at Maui.

How bad can you have it when you and your family are staying at a 4-5* star hotel in paradise? The Hyatt is great, the Fairmont is great, so are a ton of other fine resorts on Maui. Worry about having to choose amongst all the wonderful activities possible on Maui between the four of you!!!

We stayed at the Kea Lani and it was a wonderful place for the whole family! I've never stayed at the Hyatt in Maui, but the Kea Lani was nicer than the Hyatt in Kauai. That is saying alot because the Hyatt had awesome grounds and pools. I loved both places! The Kea Lani rooms are nicer, but the Hyatt was a blast for the kids. As far as the beach goes, the Kea Lani has a more private beach, less crowds. We stayed at the Westin Maui about 4 years ago, and I would pick one suite over 2 Westin rooms, but the Hyatt has to have better rooms than the Westin. The staff treated us special at the Kea Lani, and I had a great time. I would pick the Kea Lani because I know how nice it is. The Hyatt would be my second chose out of all the Maui hotels for the family.
