Maui Hotel Dilemma-Urgent!

I booked the Hyatt for 7 nights for my honeymoon. I called the travel agent today to add a night but the hotel is sold out in my room category. So I either need to keep my reservations as is, upgrade the entire stay to add the extra night, or change hotels completely to get 8 nights somewhere else. I hear the Hyatt is really nice and it includes a buffet breakfast. Should I consider changing hotels, and if so, which one. Is the Westin as nice? What about the Renaissance Wailea? Lastly, is something going on in Maui the week of July 24, 2000 b/c lots of hotels are sold out.

No, the Westin is not as good as the Hyatt and the chief complaint is that some of the rooms are terribly small and not up to usual Westin standards. If you do not want to give up your time at the Hyatt, why don't you keep a few nights there and then the remainder of the time at the Four Seasons Wailea(budget permitting) or the Renaissance Wailea. Lots of previous postings on both of these properties.

Lisa,

Annemarie's idea is good; why not 4 nights at Hyatt, 4 nights at Renaissance Wailea, if you don't mind a hotel change. Bet you'd have a lovely time that way!

Aloha, Lani

Annemarie and Lani:
Thanks for the suggestion, but I'd really prefer not to switch hotels. We originally were going to do a Waikiki/Maui split, but my fiancee didn't want to go through the packing and unpacking. That being said, is the Hyatt so great that we should just enjoy our time there and give up the extra night, or is another hotel equivalent or better. I should also note that the Grand Wailea and Four Seasons are both sold out.

Lisa:
You can see from my other posts that I enjoy the Hyatt, having stayed there four times. Naturally, I'm suggesting that you stay there. Why upgrade the entire stay? Can't you stay in a different room class for the one night and then simply transfer rooms for the balance of your stay? Did you or your travel agent tell the hotel that this is a honeymoon stay...Hyatt may give you a break and work something out for you. IMHO, Hyatt has the best pools, pool area, ambiance, decor and facilities among the hotels on the Kaanapali strip. It sets the standard that the other hotels try to emulate. Do your best to stay there and have a wonderful honeymoon!

Lisa,

Apparently your fiancee doesn't want to move at all, even within the same hotel, is that right? So Frank's idea wouldn't work, I guess?

I'm a Wailea lover so I would prefer 8 nights at the Renaissance Wailea; have you asked about their Mokapu Beach Club rooms? Although I've heard they're booked heavily already for the summer, but you could ask.

By the way, that time period is very busy in Maui (and all the Hawaiian Islands) because families travel a lot then with the kids out of school. That's the second busiest time, after Christmas week!

Good luck! It will all be worth it!

Lisa...Hyatt is certainly the best property on Kanapaali but not the best on the island?? When you found out that the other hotels were sold out, did you actually phone the hotel's 800 number direct?? Just checking, because often people call the general res centre and their info and rates are aften different than the general ones. Have you tried the Kea Lani in Wailea??

We stayed at the Hyatt last July on our honeymoon, it was great, the pool area is the best and it's close to Lahaina which I liked. The buffet breakfast is really good. If I could afford it I'd up-grade. Be sure to tell them as soon as you arrive that you're on honeymoon, we got orchid leis and champagne!
