Maui Honeymoon - best place for NO kids!
 

WE are going on our honeymoon to Maui in Late Sept '03. WE are trying to decide where to stay. The options are the Hyatt or 4 Seasons or others if you have suggestions. We don't want to be with alot of families (ie kids) I'm afraid with the pool renovations at the Hyatt will it attract more kids? Any opinions?<BR>We want a nice pool, bar, and restaurant options in the area.<BR><BR>Thanks<BR>

kk:<BR><BR> If you are going in late September, school will be in session so kids shouldn't be an issue. I've stayed at both the Hyatt and the FS. While the Hyatt has a great atrium and a much better pool, the FS has larger rooms, and better food and service. It also fronts a nicer beach. If you want to avoid kids altogether I understand that the Kapalua Bay Hotel is the best in that department. If you are willing to consider the Big Island, the Kona Village Resort is couples only for all of September.

Hi KK!<BR><BR>Just a thought-you might want to consider the Ritz Carlton Kapalua for your honeymoon. My husband and I were there in early December for a belated honeymoon.It was absolutely perfect!!! There were no kids in sight the entire trip!! No screaming kids by the pools just couples like us enjoying their peaceful vacations under the cabanas with a Mai Tai in hand!! The hotel itself is beautiful-secluded spot in Kapalua with world class golf, tennis, spa,fabulous restaurants with amazing views of the ocean and beautiful Kapalua bay, 24 hour room service, and excellent staff!We could have stayed the entire trip under our cabana at the pool and not missed a thing!!! We did go offseason which is why I guess the kid factor was low. You should be ok in Sept though.We had a VERY peaceful and romantic holiday. Happy Honeymoon!!

Unfortunately the majority of hotels in Hawaii have lots of kids. The worst are unfortunately the ones you mentioned and the Grand Wailea. If you read a lot of the fodors reviews you'll notice many say &quot;my kids had a good time&quot;. Maui is not the most quiet of the islands. I agree w/ the above poster to try the Ritz Carlton. I stayed at the Kapalua Bay and found it to me the most quiet in Sept.

There is a post today under Most Overrated Resorts saying the Four Seasons Maui is just filled with kids and folks talking on cell phones. I think you would be better off going to the other Four Seasons or even the newly renovated Hotel Hana Maui.

I also went on my honeymoon to Maui in late Sept/early Oct 2002 thinking I could avoid families. Doesn't matter what time of year, you can't avoid families on Maui, they are everywhere. Remember parents with kids under 5 don't have school to worry about. I am afraid you are just going to have to deal with it as we did. Big Island, which we also visited had far fewer families. I would imagine Kauai would also be a better choice for no kids, but we did not go there.<BR><BR>

It does not matter when you go hotels are overrun with kids all the time. I have not figured it out except that people simply take their darlings out of school whenever it suits them. It's gotten way worse over the years in Hawaii too. The more expensive hotels don't make any difference, you just get more spoiled and bratty kids whose parents have more money (or who are staying on points), you really cannot win with the kid situation. I hope you do luck out and hit a week when there are only a few around, but be prepared for them just the same.

kk,<BR><BR>Why are you worried about a hotel pool situation? Remember, you have the whole Pacific Ocean!!!!<BR><BR>Also, to the poster who could have stayed under the cabana her entire trip; Why spend to money to go to Hawaii for that????? Next time try you local Holiday Inn.<BR><BR>Just Curious

I have stayed at the Ritz Carlton in Maui, although it's been several years. I was amazed at the fact that there were SO many children there(it was July, though). What amazed me was that people could actually afford to fly entire families (plus nannies sometimes) over there! I don't recall the kids bothering me particularly and we were there as a couple. I will say that at the time I had a baby myself (who was at home with family) and I thought all little ones were cute! I'm not sure there will be any place where there are hardly an kids, as people seem to travel with their children more often now..

FYI to &quot;just Curious&quot;-The Cabanas at the Ritz border a beautiful pool area with swaying palm trees and the sounds of the waves of the ocean right out front.You lounge peacefully between sunning ,having Mai Tais and dips in the pool all without a care in theworld because this is what A Maui vacation is for me-peace and quiet with paradise all around. It may not be everyone's ideal, but it works for me!!
