Maui Honeymoon

We are going to Maui in a few weeks, and my soon to be wife wants to travel to visit Pearl Harbor. I have a few questions. 1) Is it worth the trip. 2) Are tickets as hard to get as I've heard. 3) Will I be able to book a package once I get there or should I do it now.

I assume the part you are having difficulty with is whether or not to make the Pearl Harbor visit. First thing to do is see if your flight to Maui connects through Honolulu (HNL). If it does, you can visit Pearl Harbor on the day of your return flight, as long as you get there early in the morning. We rented a car from HNL airport and drove to Pearl harbor, bought tickets for the boat ride to the Memorial, visited the Musuem, toured the adjacent WWII submarine in a few hours. From what I understand, the later you arrive at Pearl Harbor the more crowded it gets and longer you will have to wait in line for the boat ride to the memorial.

Just curious, where are you staying in Maui? I've been there twice, the first time Kapalua Bay Resort (way back in 1986) and absolutely fell in love with it. Checked today and Fodor's rates is 3.8 on the rickter (sp?) scale. Can't imagine why it went that low. In 1992, we stayed in a private condo in Wailea - terrific stay but gave the condo info to my sister who rented over Christmas and was very disturbed over the accomodations (she did not stay in the same condo we did). Back to Pearl - yes, it's crowded with tourists so plan on a wait. Is it worth the trip? Yes, because your bride wants to go! Bryan, please her by going, OK? Can't recall whether or not you need to book in advance, but I'd guess YES. Have fun and Congratulations. Kat

Pearl Harbor is definitely worth the trip, especially if you're an American. Go see it. You won't regret it. Very simple. Get to Pearl Harbor at around 7AM, buy your tickets and maybe wait 15-20 minutes for the tour to start. You'll see a movie about the day of December 7, 1941. After that you will board a shuttle that will take you out to the Arizona Memorial. Absolutely worth it. If you have time I recommend visiting the World War II submarine and then the USS Missouri after the Arizona Memorial. While on Maui I recommend the sunrise at the top of Haleakala and definitely drive the road to Hana. Make sure you get a CD or guide that tells you where to stop along the way to Hana. GO PAST HANA AND DRIVE ALL THE WAY AROUND THE BACK OF MAUI. IT IS SOME OF THE MOST BREATH-TAKING VIEWS I'VE EVER SEEN. It only adds another hour onto the trip. It's worth it. Sorry for the lengthy response. I get carried away when I start talking about Hawaii. Congrats and have a safe trip. There is nothing like Hawaii.

I don't think it's worth the trip. It's a sad eerie place. Tickets have gone up to $98 one way. And gone are the days you could just walk up to the counter and fly over like catching a bus.
