Maui Help

We are going to Maui the end of March with our 18 year old daughter. This is our first trip to Hawaii. We are staying at The Whaler. I need some advice on excursions and activities. We would like to see dolphins and whales and love to snorkle. Are there some tours you would recommend over others. Thinking of doing the Old Lahania Luau. Good Choice? Also what would be some places to go to in the evening that my daughter would enjoy even if she has to drag along the "old folks"? (we're hoping she might meet some kids her age where we are staying so she can have some time on her own). Thanks

You may wish to check out www.pacificwhale.org for a good menu of whale-watching and snorkeling activities (some combined in one excursion)lead by a serious but fun-loving research institute. Kaanapali is an excellent place to meet peers and to view whales in season. Also, Blackrock at the Kaanapali Sheraton has very good snorkeling. If time permits, take the leisurely drive to Hana and ride a bicycle or drive down Haleakala. Lahaina is a glimpse of life in the fast lane for shore leave sailors and worth a visit even without the luau. There's also a nifty whale museum at Whaler's Village that's entertaining and educational.

We'er headed to Maui in a few days, and have booked a morning snorlkel trip on the Four Winds. I've heard very good things about them. http://www.mauicharters.com/

We will be renting our snorkel gear at the Maui Dive Shop: http://www.mauidiveshop.com/

If you haven't already, buy a guidebook called Maui Revealed. Very informative. I've heard the Old Lahania Luau is one of the best. Have fun.

Worth checking out--A catamaran trip to Lanai with Trilogy. You can leave early, have lunch (the crew does the cooking), and return in afternoon, or leave later and return at sunset. Both trips include snorkeling and an optional van tour of Lanai (recommended). You may even see some whales!
The Old Lahaina Luau is pretty good--supposed to be the best on Maui. Make reservations early for good seats.
The bike ride down Haleakala is good--I'd recommend not doing the sunrise thing, unless you're fairly sure it will be clear. Haleakala Bike Co. offers a go-at-your-own-pace (not with a group) ride.
You'll love staying at The Whaler--great location and facility!

Thank you so much for all your great suggestions. My husband loves to sail so the Trilogy trip would be nice. At the Old Lahania Luau is it best to get a table in the front or the pillow seating? Any recommendations for evening entertainment? (shows, music, etc). I'm anxious to check out all the websites that have been suggested. Thanks again

I travel to Maui at least once a year, and have tried many activities. The following are just my personal opinion - Old Lahaina Luau is great - I've gone 3 times & have always sat at table. It's kind of a long time to sit on pillows. The Trilogy trip is wonderful. You can take a tour around the island of Lanai in an air-conditioned van - I really enjoyed this! I've used Pacific Whale for whale watching/snorkeling. Also, Captain Steve's is great for whale watching!!! A couple of evening shows in Lahaina are U'Ulena & Warren & Annabelles Magic show - I've been to W & A twice. It's a lot of fun. I agree that the BEST guidebook around is "Maui Revealed." If you plan to drive the road to Hana, the book is a must! You will miss the best sights otherwise. Aloha!!
