Maui HELICOPTER flight: Have you tried this?

Has anyone tried a helicopter flight over Maui?

Is it dangerous? Terrifying? (I'm afraid of flying, I should add, but am still considering this one.)

Is it worth it?

We did a helicopter flight over Kauai once. It was terrifying but exciting. It is something everybody should do once if they can. I don't know if I would ever do it again but I'm glad I did it then.

teresazona, If humans had 9 lives like cats, I think you've already used up 2...you survived the rent-a-wreck and a helicopter flight over kaui!

What adventure are you planning next?

I don't know if I can handle the helicopter flight. If you did it once but you'd never do it again, it sounds pretty terrifying.

Melissajoy, I did the helicopter thing ten years ago when I was younger and braver. As I get older I get more reluctant to do scary things. If you do it once, you don't need to do it again. You know, been there done that. So just do it and you will have something to tell your grandkids someday.

Yes, we did an Air Maui helicopter trip over Haleakala and the coast up to Hana last December. Glad we did it. Great views of waterfalls (plenty of rain that week) and the crater. Took about 45 minutes. There were 6 of us plus the pilot. We'd never been in a helicopter before, so we had no idea what to expect. i've been on small 12 seater "puddle jumpers" for 15 minutes that were much, much scarier!

I took the helicopter ride in Kauai 2 years ago and was not terrified at all. I was at ease the whole time and the experience was wonderful. Do it. You will be glad you did. I might also add, I am afraid of heights.

dh and I did a helicopter tour over Kauai last month, it was an hour, and we loved it!
We saw things that there is no other way to see...other than by Air, it was incredible!
yes, it can be a little scary, but so is getting in your car every morning....if you want to think about it that way.

I am so glad we did it, it was an expereince to remember forever! the sights are absolutley amazing!

I wish I had done the helicopter flight over Kaui when we were there on a family vacation several years ago. I wonder if the helicopter flight over Maui is as beautiful as the one over Kaui?

I think one of the lovely scenes in Jurassic Park was actually filmed over Kaui.

I'm afriad of heights and afraid to fly as well, plus I get motion sickness. I didn't even fly anywhere for several years, but I have made a lot of progress and have been flying more in the last couple of years. I flew from San Diego to Italy and did fine!

We took a helicopter ride on Big Island last month and it was the highlight of our trip! I was excited; my husband was a little anxious since one had gone into a cliff on Kauai a couple of days earlier. We both loved the experience - so glad we did it!

i'm actually clausterphobic...would you suggest I do a helicopter ride anyway? I've been reading about some crashes as well. Do you feel safe when you're on the tour? IS it really hot in there?

We did the Maui tour about 4 years ago and loved it. You wear headphones that the pilot speaks to you through. They also play music at certain times, like as you take off they play "Magic Carpet Ride". I had heard that song 1000 times before that, but, every time I hear it now, it takes me right back to that moment lifting off in Maui. I guess you could say that it was worth the $$.

Good Luck, and take care!
