Maui Hawaii in April 2006

Hi All,
My husband and me are planning to visit Maui in April 2006. This is my first time to this paradise! So please help me with lodging and airfare tips. I would like to rent a condo for a week(oceanfront will be best, but price is definitely a factor). Pleeeeease help me with your suggestions. Thanks!

You can get package deals from many airlines.

You can also get package deals from sites like www.expedia.com or www.hawaii.com

Lots of Maui info:

www.mauihawaii.org

www.visitmaui.com

These are good for all islands:

www.gohawaii.com Hawaii Visitors Bureau, they will send a free brochure

www.spotlighthawaii.com Maui Gold

www.thisweek.com This Week on Maui

www.101thingstodo.com 101 Things to do on Maui

Maui Gold, This Week and 101 Things also have free hard copies that you can pick up at the airport baggage area and many other places on Maui.

www.hawaiiweb.com

www.alternative-hawaii.com Has good narrative drive guides

www.driveguidemagazines.com Has good maps including some detailed maps. Also good restaurant guide.

You can compare hotels & condos on these:

www.hawaii-hotels.com Scroll to the bottom and where it says VISIT, click on Maui hotels or Maui condos.

www.expedia.com

dnas: We stayed at Maui Kai, which is right on the ocean. Check their website or do a VBRO check. Our room was #208, a corner with more views. It was very nice. (We requested a newly refurbished room and were not dissappointed). The people there were very conscientous and courteous!
They have a BBQ grill area, near the pool and large jacuzzi, as well as a computer, game area and a small lending library. They offer free cappucino in their 'lobby' each am, but I found it lacking in flavor. Also has a laundry room on each floor, boogie boards, beach chairs and coolers for your use.
ajcolorado had recommended it to us on this board.

Also stayed at the Mana Kai (south) and, if you don't care about A/C, you might like room 201 (great view!) and right on a good snorkeling beach. They have smaller (hotel) rooms with A/C but no kitchen facilities. I found the personnel here to be alittle brusk, except for Wilso, who 'saved us' one night.

Both of these places were something like $180/night with no 'cleaning fee'(something that I tried to avoid) or parking fees charged.

That should have been "Wilson", not Wilso!

Go to the web site www.CondominiumConnection.com, they have about all the Condo listings you would care to look at. Lots of pictures, amenities and prices. Another option is Hawaiibyowner.com. Sometimes you can save a bit by renting directly from the Condo owner.

The Sugar Beach Resort offers a great quality/value ratio, the only downside being it is a ways away from many of the touristy areas of the Island.

The last time we were there, we stayed at the Mahana which is north of Kaanapauli and found it to be very nice as well and reasonably convenient to the tourist areas, which is important if you like shopping, nightlife etc.

Be sure when you book to fully understand what they mean by Ocean front/ocean view. Some condo's will say ocean view, but you gotta look pretty hard. We ran into that one at the Aston Kaanapauli Villa, we got more traffic noise than surf noise. Both the Sugar Beach and the Mahana are absolutely Ocean Front.

Thanks to all of you who replied. Your comments are very valuable. I just booked our flight tickets (frequent flier miles) to Maui (5 days) and then to Honululu (4 days). Will check the websites for lodging. Please do let meknow your recommendation for condos in Honululu or Oahu.
Thanks.
