Maui - Handicap accessible beaches/condo advice

Our family is planning a trip to Maui this winter with my parents. I am looking for advice on condos and beaches that would have easy handicap access. We want mom to be able to come with us to be with the kids (ages 4 and 8) on the beach, go for walks etc. Condo needs to be VERY clean with A/C or good air flow, quiet and preferably ocean front. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!

Hello kimmer4 - by "handicap accessible" do you mean using a wheelchair or just difficulty walking?

If your mother is in a wheelchair, there is a wonderful beachside promenade sidewalk at Kaanapali Beach. I'm not talking of the area down by the Kaanapali Shores or Mahana. But the area by the Kaanapali Alii and Whaler condos (which are both very nice IMHO). There is a sidewalk that goes the length of the beach, which I'm sure she would enjoy. She could watch her darling grancdhildren play in the water from the sidewalk. The beach is not so large that she wouldn't be able to see them from the sidewalk.

I believe the Marriott is next door to the Alii, and I think it's turned into condos or timeshares, so that might also be a possibility for you.

However, wanting a "quiet" place may be problematic, as this area is right in the middle of the action. To me, the units inside are very quiet, but of course once you are outside and mingling, it gets noisy with all the people. Actually, maybe "busy" is a better word. Just depends what you're really after.

Years ago I stayed in a very nice condo in the Kihei area, but it was directly on the sand with no sidewalk, so I would not consider that accessible if using a wheelchair.

Happy travels!
