Maui--Hana with kids advice

Hi again.

I've heard good and bad things about the road to Hana. I know it's a long day trip and we have a toddler and a baby. Do we need to go all the way to Hana to make it worthwhile? Are there some waterfalls early on in the trip we could stop at, and then either turn back or decide we want to continue on? Any thoughts?

Thanks!

We went only part way and then came back since it was our get away day. There is lots of good scenery on the way. I'd turn around as soon as the kids say they feel barfy because by the time you get back to the straightaway again breakfast may already be up! :) :0! It's a pretty winding road.

LOL. Not looking forward to barfy kids! thanks much for your reply!

Aloha, I took my kids to Hana many years ago. Out of the 3 one barfed. It is a long drive, Hana is a special little place and worth the visit. Start out early and if you time it right you can spend time checking out the beaches,Hasagawa General Store and slowly wind your way back.Patti

We only went part of the way...there is one travel book we had read that said if you go to this certain marker, the rest of the route, although beautiful, is much of the same. I am sorry I can't remember how far but I am sure if you read up on your trip you will come across this advice.

I hate to say this is funny, (at the time it wasn't) but I had a barfer too! Needless to say, it's a common occurrence on this road- take something with you to catch it just in case! ;o

Also, we really enjoyed Wainapanapa State park. It was a great beach for the kids to unwind at. Have a great time!

We drove the road to Hana just 3 weeks ago. The experience was amazing. Such great scenery. But it is a very long ride. We did not have any kids with us but if you don't want your kids in the back to keep on asking you "are we there yet", you can make more stops along the way. We stopped at a fruit/juice stand, took pictures, swam in waterfall pools, too more pictures, visited the Garden of Eden and fed some birds, hiked, etc. So there should be a lot you and your kids can do without them getting too bored. But I must warn you, the road does get narrow and winding. Also, bring a lot of water and snacks. There's barely any place you can get food when you're on the road.

Thanks everyone. I LOVE the idea of swimming in pools by waterfalls. We'll definitely stop a lot!

Kelly

Kelly, did you make it? We will be there the last week of August with our 18 mos. old & are wondering if we can do it.
