Maui-Hana Activity Help

rebroc Jul 26th, 2007 12:44 PM

Arriving in Maui 9/15 and staying in Kaanapali for 4 days. Heading to Hana 9/19 and checking out 9/22. Would appreciate suggestions for activities from each location. Especially Hana area. (For instance, a day trip to Lanai would be best from Kaanapali.) Thanks to all in advance for sharing!

With just 4days in Kaanapali I personally wouldn't head to Lanai. Enjoy the West Coast of Maui or head South to Makena. So much to see!

As far as Hana Activities, mother nature is at your beck and call. Hamoa Beach, Red Sand Beach, Black Sand Beach......if you are renting a home and plan on cooking, provision up down island! As far as activities, a local little league game can be a highlight after all the daytrippers leave. Best is to plan early morning and later afternoon adventures to avoid those daytrippers.

Oh and you could always fly with Armin on a powered hanglider/trike! He's a trip worth taking!

If you are considering flying with Armin, better call or email him now. When the real icee flew with him in March, he was booked for the next 2 weeks solid.

After you do the Seven Sacred Pools drive on down to Lindberg's grave to kill a few extra minutes.

I had french toast and the real icee had loco moco at the Hana Ranch Restaurant and I think for both of us with coffee was $13!!

Where are you staying in Hana?

My husband and I spend a couple of hours walking around Kahanu Gardens--one of the lesser known National Tropical Botanic Gardens. It's very near Hana, has a huge restored heiau,a gorgeous setting and is never crowded. If you think you would like to go, be aware it is not a flower garden--more palms, breadfruit trees, other tropical food plants.

You have to do the sunrise at the top of the volcano!

If you are a supporter of the arts, there is a talented potter working in Kipahulu. Her name is Arabella Ark and her workshop and studio is a few miles past Hana on your way to Kipahulu. She specializes in raku. Very cool stuff.

Spend your mornings getting about and hiking and your afternoons being lazy at Hamoa Beach.
