Maui - Four Seasons or Hyatt Regency?
My husband and I are headed to Maui (first time for me, second for him) in September 2006. We do not want a condo but have narrowed the hotel search down to 2: Hyatt Regency or Four Seasons. We have no kids and are looking to have a romantic, relaxing but fun vacation. Has anyone stayed at both and could give some preferences? Thanks much!!

No comparison - Maui FS. It's one of the finest little resorts we've ever been to. You won't be disappointed. Just go for it! We did the cheapest room and would do it again in a heartbeat. It came with a car and breakfast for $425 a night.

Wailea beats Ka`anapali for relaxation and beauty. FS is low rise, lower density and many leagues above the Hyatt chain in service, amenities, cachet. Haven't stayed at either-Maui-but I'm familiar with the areas and the brands. Have a great trip.

Hi-I know you aren't asking for add'l recommendations but consider the Grand Wailea. It is gorgeous and a very Hawaiian hotel. The FS is lovely; more Asian in decor (art/furniture). However without kids; the FS might be a better choice since I would guess there would be fewer there. You will love the it. ((h))

Not sure what "you will love the it" means -- meant You will LOVE it!

Thanks to all who replied. This is great information!!!! It seems that the FS might be just what we need. And as a side note to stever, where did you find that great deal? Was it on their website or another one. I found a good (enough) room rate but it did not include breakfast or a car.
Again, thanks to everyone. Keep the postings coming! |
Four Seasons hands down. We've stayed at the Hyatt, Four Seasons and Kea Lani and the Four Seasons was our favorite. We also prefer the Wailea area over Kanapali. Didnt get a rate anywere near as good as stever - but we thought it was worth every penny.

We like the Kaanapali area b/c there's so much to do there, but weren't happy with the Hyatt and are staying at The Sheraton for our anniversary at Christmas time. Have a wonderful trip!!!!!

Don't forget that the FS is doing a MAJOR renovation starting in September.
Have a great trip no matter where you stay! |
Another vote for FS hands down. We stayed at the Maui hotel a few years ago and it was wonderful. I would add that we did have one problem which came up (involved one of the kids locking themselves in the bathroom). They didn't handle it well at first, but when the manager found out what happened, he and the staff more than made up for it. They really outdid themselves. The rooms are extremely well appointed. Just a really nice experience - and the views!!
