Maui experts..too late to plan August-Sept. visit???

My neighbor, whenever plans ahead for anything..
Wants to take relatives to Maui late August for a week..
Seems think she can just make a few calls in JUNE and all can be arranged ???
Opinions?

Sounds reasonable to me.

Doable, depending on their wants and needs. IF it were me, I would use an internet booking site (booking.com) and "look" there; if I found what I wanted, then I would check the specific hotels' website to see if they will match or beat the price. THEN maybe call but that likely isn't even needed. All online.

August is definitely low season in Maui.

Not a pert but tell her to inquire about any scheduled renovations during their stay. Many hotels and condos schedule maintenance in September and shut down pools.

Sure, not a problem. 3 months is plenty of time in advance to plan a trip, as long as you're a bit flexible (don't have just one hotel or town in mind). I do it all the time.

Any time mainland schools are on holiday is busy in Hawaii. LATE August would show more availability for lodging and rental cars. September is one of the lowest seasons, but HOT. Do they want hotel or condo?

Well I don't know about "calls" (i'd start with online then make calls if I needed to) but there's nothing wrong with their plan.

If you tell us their dates, how many people/rooms needed, a general price range, hotel/resort/condo, any town or area preference, etc. we can make suggestions.

My opinion is that your neighbor won't have any problem arranging a trip. If it was Christmas, it would be a different story.

Shouldn't be a problem. I just came back from Maui and booked the trip in late January.

We often go to Maui with less than a week's advance planning. There are lots of hotels and restaurants to choose from if it you don't have your heart set on a particular one!

Obviously, this advice does NOT apply to Christmas time or to the Big Island of Hawaii during the Merrie Monarch!

We planned a family reunion the first week of August. So far, all we have are the confirmed dates when everyone is available :) No air tix, no VRBO ressies... The kids are too busy to look at my list of rentals.

I don't know how this will work out for us, being a far-in-advance planner, I worry.

No need to worry Dayenu (or for that matter, traveler24). Nothing a pile of money can't solve. $-)

Only today our older son emailed with his choices of VRBO. Some flights have only middle seats. We have just over 2 months to plan the trip!!

Our kids always make last-minute decisions. This is why I have gray hair :)

But we ARE going to Maui!!!!

sylvia3 May 28th, 2017 07:16 AM

Many of those other seats often don't open up until shortly before the flight, regardless of airline. If it matters to you, remember to start checking them a week or so before the flight. And i never care about sitting next to someone who I see constantly anyway, so seat selection opens up there, too:)

You may have to be more flexible the later you plan a trip is all. About flight times, places to stay, etc.

I guarantee you I could plan a great trip to Maui in August, starting as late as in July, given the challenge!
