Maui, early August

Going with adult kids, rented VRBO, air reserved (United! :D ), car reserved. The kids want to do the Road to Hana one day, and reserved Lele luau (need table service). The rest will be TBD when we get there. Kids love snorkeling, and this time we'll stay in Kihei-Wailea area.

Anybody there Aug 3-8? GTG? :)

Have a great time! I loved the Feast at Lele!

My favorite shave ice stop is at S&Q Shave Ice & Coffee in Kihei. Please have a papaya, guava & passion fruit shave ice for me.

I know you'll have kitchen facilities, but breakfast at Kihei Kaffe is excellent.

SF - we don't drive, and the kids love snorkeling in the morning, so our breakfasts, at least coffee and toast, will be at "home". But we can go in for brunches! Thanks for suggestion.

WTM I'll tell kids about S&Q - we'll have to have at least one shave ice in Hawaii.

Thank you, Michelle, we went there before and loved it... as we have nothing to compare to :) It's the only place with table service.

Here are some ideas - we go every other year with our sons (now ages 17 & 19).
In Kihei there is an outdoor roller rink. They rent rollerblades. Public skate is Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 6-8 or 9.
Check out the Horhitos food truck across the street. Its great cheap eats.

Try sunrise at Haliakela. It is a bit cliche, but after sunrise we hiked into the crater (not very strenuous) and it was really quiet.

We love the town of Paia. First check out the windsurfers at Hoopika Beach then go to Paia Fish Market or Milagros.

Rent snorkel equipment from Boss Frog or Snorkel Bobs and just keep it in the car. There is good snorkeling at the end of Ulua beach near Sorrentos restaurant. You can also go in the car about 15 minutes to the Ahihi Kinau reserve.

Stop at Costco near the airport to stock up.

ENJOY!!

I loved Haleakala, but no one wanted to drive up in the dark for sunrise. We went mid-morning and it was BEAUTIFUL (still freezin' cold though).

Thank you, Suzette!

Suze - kids drove up and loved it! We, the oldies, slept in. Probably the same will happen this time :) They wanted to drive up and get back on bikes, but couldn't figure out the logistics of it.
