It is the best place I ever stayed anywhere.

It is past Wailea, in a very special part of Maui - near the last (1789?) lava flow, the King's Road trail, the back side of Haleakala. Amazing uncrowded beaches, world class golf, sea turtles, views of Molokini...

But it is still accessible to pretty much anywhere on the island. (Though admittedly, Lahaina is a bit of a drive but that's not really a problem.) ;-)

We always stay in Kahana, but we rent a condo from hawaii4less. The price includes a car. They have condos in other areas.
